"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Victory

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: victory

What does the word victory mean?

Do you think there's a difference between a win and a victory?  If yes, explain.

What feelings does a victory give?

In what ways do you claim victory in the middle of your defeats?

(Can you tell I've been watching a lot of the Olympics??)

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave youFor God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  2. Hi Sharon,

Victory, means to me the one Jesus secured for me, when He died in my place on the cross at Calvary.

Hope you are feeling more settled and energised now and that you have an adequate internet connection.

    God Bless - Nita.

  4. I'll have to ponder Victory today, but now I have this old hymn in my mind...

    Oh, victory in Jesus,
    My Saviour forever
    He sought me
    And He bought me
    With His redeeming blood

    He loved me
    Ere I knew Him
    And all my love
    Is due Him
    He plunged me to victory
    Beneath the
    Cleansing flood!

  5. This Olympic week victory makes me think of gold metals! But, more than Olympic victory is the victory I have in Jesus. Anita's song is one we sang throughout my childhood.

  6. When I think of the word victory I see joy on my face and the faces of those around me...victory in Jesus! For me victory does not mean winning as we think of it in the Olympics, but finishing the race...a personal victory...it means my vicotry comes from Christ and I just have to walk it out....

  8. What does the word victory mean?

It means to conquer something, to overcome something, to come through an ordeal successfully.

Do you think there's a difference between a win and a victory? If yes, explain.

I do think there's a difference. To me, a win means that you have outscored or bested someone in some sort of contest. I think of coming in first place - the gold medal. However, victory is a more subjective matter, in my opinion. It doesn't necessarily mean that you come in first. Sometimes it just means that your perseverance or patience has allowed you to overcome an obstacle. I am reminded of the Olympics four years ago. In some race, a favorite runner pulled up lame with a hamstring injury. But he managed to hobble his way to the finish line - with a very touching assist by his loving father. That, my friends, was a victory.

What feelings does a victory give?

Joy, exhilaration, relief, pride (the good kind), satisfaction.

In what ways do you claim victory in the middle of your defeats?

I believe that the Christian's victory is a matter of position, not of power. Power might help you win, but it is our position as God's children that gives us victory in the middle of our defeats. We are victors because of our victorious Savior.

We will cross the finish line with a loving assist from our Father, and we will live in eternity victorious over sin forever!!

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
