"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Security

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: security

What does the word security mean to you?

What earthly things (seemingly) offer us security?

Do you think seeking security can become idolatry?  If yes, how so?

How does the believer find security in God?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. And just what brought this word to mind today?

Right now, I'm doing a great deal of praying and thinking about security. Due to reasons that I don't need to explain to you, I don't think that I will ever feel earthly security again.

    It's a false security anyway.

I am only secure in my salvation. All else is a vapor.

  3. Hi Sharon!

The world finds all sorts of things in which to find security: money, jobs, marriage, children. And yes, all these things can be considered idols. Security, eternal security and our earthly security can only be found in Christ. Halleluja!

    Blessings,
    Judy

  4. In the natural we can seek security in many things but anything other than God has the ability to fail thus it really is not as secure as expect.

  5. The earthly things that people find security in might be money, a relationship, a job, possessions, education but all of this can change in a moment. A phone call from a doctor or change in the economy could change your so called security in an instant. I have had to learn the hard way, the only true security we have is in Christ alone...He is the only thing that never changes, is dependable, faithful and true

  6. I grew up in a relatively "poor" family. There were many times my folks didn't have money to pay the rent. So having a little extra money in the bank helps me have a feeling of security although I realize that my security is not in money or possessions at all. The only real security is in Christ. We can lose all early possessions in an instant and many have, but we never lost that real security. Thank you for this thought provoking post.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  7. What does the word security mean to you?

It means being free from worry about the present or the future. It means feeling comfortable. It means being confident in your abilities, your relationships, and your circumstances.

What earthly things (seemingly) offer us security?

Oh, so many *false* idols of security. Money, power, possessions, good health, our own abilities and our own strength.

Do you think seeking security can become idolatry? If yes, how so?

Yes, I do. Because anything that directs our minds and our hearts away from total dependence on God is essentially an idol. If we place anything before our devotion to Him, especially if we place our security in this (finite) world, these things become idols. We learn to rely on temporal things, and forego the eternal.

How does the believer find security in God?

By believing in the saving grace of His Son, Jesus Christ, we can have the confidence that His death and resurrection offers us eternal security - a future with Him forever.

    Ahhhh...wonderfully GOOD news.

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
