"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Family

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: family

What are some of the blessings of being part of a family?

What things do you love most about your own family?

How does the Body of Christ reflect the idea of family?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. The greatest blessing of being in a family is that unconditional love that you can find there. A family knows your warts and loves you anyway. Even better, though, they love you enough to be honest about those warts and want you to change, not to suit them but because they love YOU. They will also work to help you with that change.

I think the body of Christ is supposed to have that same type of genuine love.

To be honest, though, too often the family of Christ is most like a family because of the turmoil in the pews and the crazy aunts in the attic. Sigh.

  3. I like thinking about the body of Christ as my family. Our family sticks together and reaches out to the weakest one. Forgiveness flows and heals and that's so important in any relationship.

  4. Family is sinew — both biological and spiritual. And there is even more strength when the power of God is present!

I love your acronym for BLOG!

  6. Ha - Sharon - This word is appropriate for the way I spent Friday, November 16 - welcoming my new son-in-love into my family as I saw my beautiful daughter married and so very happy. And, we got to share the event with so many of our church family, too - plus relatives - but, sometimes the Blood of Jesus is thicker . . . if you know what I mean.
    Joy!

  7. What are some of the blessings of being part of a family?

Of course, being loved and accepted is one of the best blessings. And I also just love the feeling of belonging. My family is protective of each other, and they look out for each other. I also like how you can see the physical family resemblance between various members. As a sidenote, one of my grandfathers was the oldest of 11 children. I remember attending a family reunion of 105 of us *descendants* - I remember the special feeling of that day.

What things do you love most about your own family?

I have to admit that several members of my family have the BEST sense of humor, so there's a lot of bantering and laughing. It's been fun watching my sons, and my nieces and nephews grow up. Now they're all old enough that they're like friends - so the teasing has been pretty fun! Also, I've been blessed with a pretty spectacular *Christian legacy* too - it's special knowing that these faces that I love so much will be with me in eternity.

How does the Body of Christ reflect the idea of family?

Again, I think the feeling of belonging is a special thing - the sense of unity is powerful. Not that we're any better than anyone else, but it's nice to be with people who *speak your own language*. And of course, we have our Heavenly Father, and are called His children. That's family, for sure!

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
