Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.
This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)
Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!
Today's word: firm
What does the word firm mean to you?
What do you think it means to stand firm in the Lord?
What challenges weaken your firm faith legs?
Let me know what you think!!
"Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong."
(1 Corinthians 16:13, NLT)
"Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." (1 Corinthians 15:58, NIV)
"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)
BLOG = "Blessedly Leaning On God!"
What a great word to ponder! It wasn't until I read this that I thought about the fact that what makes us stand firm has as much (MORE!) to do with that upon which we're standing as it does with us. If the surface is a wobbly one or a mushy one, we can't really stand firm, can we? I guess the only reason we can ever stand firm in the LORD is because of His firmness and not ours.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteWas pondering what to write and then I read Debbie's comment above and I think she has said it for me.
Happy New Year - Nita.
touche Debby..I totally agree. Standing strong....Have a great weekend Sharon.
ReplyDeleteI think of firm being similar to solid. Standing firm is important. I think of the opposite as something like quicksand. The wise man built his house on the rock (solid and firm).
ReplyDeleteI linked your blog on Spiritual Sundays. Sorry for the problem. I don't know why but many times the linky doesn't come up. Then later it does.
Thank you for sharing.
Blessings,
Charlotte
Good question today! Standing firm is allowing God's strength to give us that power to stand on-as Debbie said so eloquently!
ReplyDeleteLove you!
Firm - means not to hard and not to soft. I mean you are like a rock where you won't listen but you are weak - you know your mind.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of firm, I think of something that doesn't easily move. Which is exactly how we are suppose to be in God. Not easily moved by those things going on around us.
ReplyDeleteI'm grateful God is solid when I'm total mush.
ReplyDeleteWhat does the word firm mean to you?
ReplyDeleteUnmovable, undaunted, solid and strong. Firm is granite. Firm is resolute and determined. (Firm is NOT the condition of my body at the moment...)
What do you think it means to stand firm in the Lord?
It means to not allow yourself to be shaken by circumstances or worries. To not give in to the attacks of the enemy. To refuse to believe lies, or deceits, or doubts. Standing firm in the Lord starts with using His Word as a solid foundation, and trusting in the Cornerstone of our faith - Jesus. It is looking at Heaven in confidence and hope, refusing to be tossed about by the turmoils of this world.
What challenges weaken your firm faith legs?
Health issues, worries about my sons, concerns about my aging parents - mostly anything that challenges my feeble sense of control. Not yielding and accepting God's sovereignty in my life always leads me to sinking sand.
Standing firm on The Rock with all of you!!
GOD BLESS!
When I am weak, crumbling like a cookie, He helps me to stand strong, not ruin a perfectly yummy cookie.
