"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Harvest

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: harvest

What is your favorite thing about the harvest season?

What do you think Jesus meant when He said the harvest is plenty, but the workers are few?

How can you become a more effective partner in the kingdom to see that the harvest comes in?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Hi Sharon,

Lots of people need to hear about Jesus and His Love and Mercy and Salvation.

    Not many ready to share.

Well that is what it says to me.

Miss you, hope all is going well with you.

    Hugs Nita

  2. Well, harvest season is my favorite time of the year so of course I like it scripturally and spiritually as well as in the traditional sense.

I think Jesus is calling us to "part two". I know that sounds trite, but I do.

A lot of us like to pride ourselves in seed sowing. We like the mental image of the Sower just scattering it abroad. We can even walk away with a false pride in the sowing,as if there were not work left to be done. There's work in the harvest. When we begin to see the fruit of the seed, we need to be willing to set our hearts toward the work of the harvest.

    Clear as mud?

And now I have the song, "Bringing in the Sheathes" stuck in my head.

  3. Went to the farmer's market today. The fresh fruit and vegetables are a blessing. God is good-- the fall colors, the harvest display God's handiwork. God's plan of salvation displays his love. I think about speaking truth in love.

  4. I love the trees changing. There's just something magical about it to me. Maybe because I'm in the fall season of my own life. I heard a lesson when I was a teen on the things we should "leaf" behind. I've never forgot it and the leaves remind me to "leaf" pride, self righteous, dishonesty, etc. behind.

  5. What is your favorite thing about the harvest season?

Living in Southern California is not the best place to experience the harvest season! We don't have the dramatic change of color in the leaves of the trees. However, up here in my new mountain home, I see more of that than before. I like that. But, my favorite thing about the harvest season is the new *crisp* in the air that I feel. That certain clean, cold smell that the air has as the season changes from summer to autumn.

What do you think Jesus meant when He said the harvest is plenty, but the workers are few?

There is a big world out there, full of many, many lost people. Jesus was talking about that. There are so many lost sheep who need the Good Shepherd. But, there are woefully too few people willing to go out and spread the Good News. Jesus' statement convicts me, at the same time that it challenges me. Am I willing to be one of the workers who sacrifices my time, my resources to sow the seeds of the Gospel? Lord, help it to be so.

How can you become a more effective partner in the kingdom to see that the harvest comes in?

One of the things that I think I must do is to venture out into the world. It's easy (and often, very comfortable) to stay in my little Christian world. Church and Bible Study are wonderful - I love the Body of Christ. But we are also enlisted by the Great Commission to go OUT and spread the Word. I believe that evangelism, even on a small one-on-one scale, is a great calling for the believer. We are to be ambassadors of Christ - lights on the hill, in a very dark world.

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
