Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.
This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)
Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!
Today's word: resolution
What is a resolution?
What does it take to make - and keep - a resolution?
What is one resolution you have for the new year?
Let me know what you think!!
"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)
BLOG = "Blessedly Leaning On God!"
Resolution...to draw closer and develop an even deeper relationship with my Lord. I long to understand more of His teachings and live out His plan for me! I'd like to work on all areas of this including prayer, Bible study, scripture memorization, fellowship, service and worship! I'm jumping in in 2012!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Joan
My resolution is to grow closer to God.
ReplyDeleteMy resolution is to be INTENTIONAL, about so many things God has pointed out to me for my life. I am on the way... 2012 is going to be special!!

Dear Sharon,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year - I loves yah. sandie
Resolution: a commitment to a course of action or thought. I take my resolutions seriously and put a lot of thought into them each year. And here we go again!
ReplyDeleteI chose healthy for my 2012 word--physically, spiritually, emotionally.
ReplyDeleteMy resolution is to use my blog this year in an act of gratitude. Using my love of photography and my blog to Praise Him. Happy New Year. I am grateful to be to read your post on this the first day of the brand new year.
ReplyDeletewishing you His best in 2012.....my resolution....to keep following Him.
ReplyDeleteBlessings Sharon,
ReplyDeleteNo resolutions for this girl!
Resolution is not part of my vocabulary, perhaps that is why I stirred clear of this fan the flame for so long!
I'm sure resolution has something to do with "RESOLVE"... but I know that you are using this for New Year's Resolutions! In my life, I have not resolved much... I think I run from conflict, at least resolving them.
However Jesus is a great resolutionist as well as a revolutionist or in His case SERVOLTION ist!!! and an abolitionist while I'm at it as we are approaching National Human Trafficking Awareness day...Jan.11th...
So what is resolution?
So I did not cheat and read the above but I'm pretty sure that even ye ole Webster would agree with me, or me with them... resolution is a process of RESOLVING...aye there's the rub (again)
(or has that post not posted yet?)(that's what happens when you go back in time to comment)... Yep, Merriam Webster says an act or process of resolving... so then you have to go check out resolving or continue on...the interesting words I found were the synonyms that include: award, call, conclusion, deliverance, determination, diagnosis, judgment (or judgement), opinion, decision, verdict.
The eye opener: DELIVERANCE and sad to see JUDGMENT... I was sure verdict was in there... and opinions for those highly opinionated people. But there and not so hidden DETERMINATION and CALL, hmmmmmmmmmm?
The simple way I see the "resolution" that you're asking about is CHANGE!
An act of change... I wish it was just the hope of change or attempt at change or even the willingness to change. The problem is that too many are set in there old ways, their comfortable ways,
and as for me... change comes through conviction of the Holy Spirit, who is the only agent of change for me. I can only think of the Serenity prayer here.
What does it take to make - and keep - a resolution? part of the definition or at least synonyms:
DETERMINATION... but as I pointed out above the Holy Spirit... it is making something a discipline, a yielded heart and a willing spirit to change.
What is one resolution you have for the new year? even though I don't do "resolutions", I have chosen a word that evolves in me as I watch God work on me with the word hopefully given by Him, but firmly planted in my mind for 2012: LIGHT... and all that implies for me to be a Light takes alot of change and discipline and moving in His Spirit, listening and hearing, changing and staying in His Word and Spirit!!!
Allowing Him full control to shine His Light through me, on me, to others and exposing the darkness in me and in others to change and hopefully I reflect more of His image... as I behold His glory shining forth in my words, thoughts, actions, LIFE! daily.
Thanks for fanning my flame... i'm a little burnt but it's ok... Love you,
Peggy
(I can't believe that I missed this far back...working on catching up as I can)
