"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Prayer

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: prayer

Why do you think prayer is so important?

What is the biggest impediment to your prayer life?

What is one thing that you are laying before the Lord in prayer at this point in your life?

Let me know what you think!!

"The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." (James 5:16, NLT)

"The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
(James 5:16, NIV)

"The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."
(James 5:16, ESV)

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Sometimes I'm guilty of attempting to make prayer too complicated. Believing that others do a much better job at than me. But God has given us each access to Him.

  4. Prayer is communicating with God :) I think its how his will is done as we lift our prayers up to him. The study I'm doing on prayer has been very fascinating and opening my mind up in new and different ways about it. Hubby's career path is the one thing I'm praying about these days (and son's safety :)

  5. Praying is my sweet time of communication with my Father. My marriage, and my health are things I am praying about right now.

  6. My father..age 75, just went through a stroke...through, he is recovering, and he is almost completely deaf..and he looked up at me this past week and said, "Janette, we just don't pray enough. We need to just stop and pray to God about everything, when we do then we see His hand and His answers!" That is prayer...praying for everything, so we see God working and we have a peace that passes all understanding, while we are in situations like my Dad, where He truly doesn't know that the next change in blood pressure won't be the one who takes him home...but he is ready.
My Dad reminded me to pray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I just came back from a prayer retreat. I went on my own to have that solitude and time to listen. Prayer is petioning but also listening.

    Lovely post.

I am praying for God to help me overcome a bondage of food.

  8. Why do you think prayer is so important?

I think prayer is a direct *pipeline* to the Lord. It is a conduit of strength and power. It enables us to tap into the will of God. It's a way for Him to communicate to us. Prayer is proof of a living and loving relationship with the Lord - an intimate conversation between friends.

What is the biggest impediment to your prayer life?

Ahhh, distractions! And sometimes, I just feel like there's so much to pray for that I don't know where to start! Another thing that I battle is this *judging* thing that I do. Instead of just talking to God, sometimes I can think about whether my prayers are faithful enough, or unselfish enough, or long enough.

What is one thing that you are laying before the Lord in prayer at this point in your life?

Probably more than anything, it's my sons. As their adult lives unfold, and as they journey on their own walks of faith, I pray that God will hold them tight. Oh, how I wish I could spare them pain and struggles! But, my prayers reach the ears of God - and that encourages me. He is faithful, and He listens to my cries.

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
