"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Rescue

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a question (or few)…just a little something to
"fan the flame" of your creativity!

And, to further fan those faith-filled flames (try saying that 10 times in a row!) – I'm adding my favorite devotional from the week!

Today's word: rescue

How would you define the word rescue?

How did God rescue you, personally, from temptation or illness or fear or a desperate situation (or any other circumstance that occurred in your life)?

Take a moment and ponder what it really took for God to rescue us.  How might you show Him your gratitude today?

Let me know what you think!!

(There were so many great verses about *rescue* that I had trouble choosing!!)

"'They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,' declares the LORD." (Jeremiah 1:19, NIV)

"'Because you trusted me, I will give you your life as a reward. I will rescue you and keep you safe. I, the LORD, have spoken!'" (Jeremiah 39:18, NLT)

"'Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.'" (Isaiah 46:4, NIV)

"Rescue those who are being taken away to death..." (Proverbs 24:11, ESV)

"Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters..." (Psalm 144:7, NIV)

"In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me." (Psalm 71:2, NIV)

"And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one." (Matthew 6:13, NLT)

"And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us."
(2 Corinthians 1:10, NLT)

"Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live." (Galatians 1:4, NLT)

"Giving thanks to the Father who did make us meet for the participation of the inheritance of the saints in the light, who did rescue us out of the authority of the darkness, and did translate [us] into the reign of the Son of His love..." (Colossians 1:12-13, YLT)

"The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
(2 Timothy 4:18, NIV)

DEVOTIONAL OF THE WEEK:

You are the apple of God's eye.  God will...answer your cries of distress; He is bending down, compassionate and interested in your prayer.  Believe in your heart that God will use His power to protect you.  When you look to God with expectation, you receive the protection you so desperately seek...God is willing and able to protect you faithfully.  He is the only One who can truly shield and protect you, so lay your cares at His feet.

*Hide me in the shadow of Your wings.

(Devotional from: "Grace for Each Moment" Compiled by Kylie Munger from devotionals by Solly Ozrovech, c. 2008, Christian Art Gifts, RSA)

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. I'm always in awe at how far down He went to pull me out. And when I share my story.....and see the hope on someone's face that they too can find freedom, I know He let me go through everything for a purpose. Rescue....huge word with huge meaning. Have a great weekend Sharon. Hugs from my heart to yours.

  2. Rescue is saving me from something too strong and more powerful than me. That's exactly what God has done for mankind.

    1. So very true, Wanda. And we certainly didn't deserve it.

  3. I like that devotional, Sharon; I like being the apple of God's eye. Rescue to me means to save from extreme harm, of which I'm glad God rescued me from eternity without him. Hope you have a great weekend!

  4. What a beautiful devotion, Sharon. I can't even begin to count the times the Lord has rescued me....from myself. I consider each time that I am able to hear the voice of His Spirit to lead me in the right direction and obey it, I've been rescued. I pray I'm always listening :)

    Have a blessed weekend, friend.

  5. Hi Sharon! I love the idea of being rescued, don't you? I do such bone-headed things and I wonder if anyone will see that I am just a flawed person...but God is there to say "I know you meant well. I'll make it ok." And he has! So many times. (Good thing he never gets tired of doing it, even tho I give him a run for his money!)

Lovely theme for the day. May God shed his grace and peace on you this weekend,
    Ceil

  6. To me rescue means taking me out of a bad situation. For me, God rescued me from sin. Yet, there's so many times I feel rescued by God. When I want to respond unkindly when I'm hurt.He rescues me. When I am about to make an unwise decision. He rescues me. When I am trapped by gossip. He rescues me. He always rescues me.

  7. Rescue means so many things to me. The Lord Jesus rescued me from an eternity in hell without Him. He also rescues me from negative thoughts, illnesses, lack, and many other things in day to day living. He is my Savior, Healer, Deliverer, Provider....He is my EVERYTHING!

  8. Rescue.....sometimes I look to people to rescue me instead of God......HE is our rescuer as you shared in scriptures....he helps us out of trouble, saves us from ourselves and the world.

  9. RESCUE = to save from harm's way ...

    God is My Rescuer!

I thought I might have an acrostic for this one but I guess not. I have been saved or rescued too often. But I'm like Renee (I knew I should not let my eyes wander and glance at what other's said as I made my way down to comment) ... and truly only God is my Rescuer! (or only His ultimate Rescue matters and counts).

Great verses for RESCUE! Thanks! I'll need them to add to Psalm 77 and this
2 Timothy 4:18 (which you have already)! I came upon this and just had to share this powerful testimony at http://godmyrescuer.com/ and pray I would never have to face something like this (this is the You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qH3Ogsegf1A).

So very thankful for all the ways God has rescued me or others I love ... like my spouse that was asleep (and can't hear to well like the fire alarm and dogs barking) in our house fire but made it out alive. God rescued me from rapes (although I was raped, He still rescued me and protected me from worse or more)
God recently rescued me from the devastation others have faced from the tropical storm Manuel that hit hard many parts of Mexico. My daily life is a complete rescue of God.

Rest and relief from the enemy's attacks
    Emancipated
    Saved and safe
    Covered by God's Strong tower
    Under His wings
    Elevated above harm and danger

I know you must have an acrostic for this! And as I ponder about what it takes and took for God to RESCUE me and deliver us from evil, I am continually aMazed and so very grateful.

    Love and blessings Sharon,
    Peggy

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
