"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Confusion

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: confusion

What does the word confusion mean to you?

Have you ever found yourself in a state of confusion? Over what issue or circumstance, and why?

What do you think is the *antidote* to confusion?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Yes, I've been in a state of confusion. Why? Because I'm blond.

I'm in so much of a state of confusion right now that I can't rightly address this other than to bring it back to that most famous state of confusion at the Tower of Babel. I think spiritual confusion is when you are so surrounded by the babble that you can't hear the Voice.

The only antidote that I know is to try to shut out the babble in Bible study. Praying alone does not work for me. Neither does trying to find the answer for the specific confusion in the Word. Instead, I have to pray (and pray and pray) and then just plod forward in my regular seemingly) unrelated Bible Study and hope and PRAY to drown out the "muddle man".

I was at it for nearly two hours already this morning.

  2. Blessings Sharon...

I'm confused??? is the word for today...confusion?

And there actually is a STATE of Confusion? or isn't it a circle of confusion?

I think this all had to do with the MAZE in my Blog Title... all I get when I'm confused is lists; lists of words like:
bafflement, bamboozlement, befuddlement, bemusement, bewilderedness, bewilderment, confusedness, discombobulation, distraction, fog, head-scratching, maze, muddle, mystification, perplexity, puzzlement, tangle, whirl Thanks Merriam Webster!

    Can't answer this one Sharon.

But the antidote (if there is one) is clear understanding. Taking the time to sort through all the "confusion" and quieting yourself long enough to put the thoughts or MESS in some as semblance of order and better understanding. It helps sometimes to withdraw from the confusion or ask someone else to help you sort it out. However, since I'm so confused, you forgive me for not having a sound mind or reply to this one. Meanwhile, I will repeat my verse from 2 Tim. 1:7 "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." which I call to mind whenever I think I'm loosing mine. But sound mind is also self-discipline and self-control, which I seem to have misplaced also in all this confusion... PRAYING for SOUND MINDS today for one and all.

Since you don't have many comments... perhaps others are in a state of confusion.

    Meanwhile remember this:
    1 Corinthians 14:33
"For God is not a God of confusion but of peace." (ESV)

Yes, Lord, Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet... and a light unto my path...

Have a blessed weekend, Sharon and Dan!
    Peace,
    Peggy

  3. I think the antidote for confusion is truth. Truth is clear, it's black and white and confusion fades.

  4. another good one, Sharon. Confusion can cause a sense of uncertainty I think; not knowing what is going on, trying to figure out things, etc. I agree with the commenter that said the antidote to confusion is truth. I think our world needs less confusion and more of the Truth of Jesus!

  5. I definitely suffer from bouts of confusion from time to time. I think we live in a confusing world. One thing I'm not confused about. I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I've committed unto him against that day. Now those are somewhat confusing words, but I do remember them from a song we used to sing in church a lot.
I hope this has not been too confusing.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  9. I am always blessed by the very wise input I receive on my "Fan the Flame" words. This was no exception.

Confusion is a tool of the devil, and it seems to come with the territory of living in this madcap world.

For me the only answer is this:

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Confusion will always be present - but the Word of God stands as an unchanging and dependable guide.

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
