"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Emmanuel

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: Emmanuel

Emmanuel literally means "God with us."

What does it mean to you to have Emmanuel (God with you) in your life?

Where does Emmanuel need to come and rescue you?

What are the strongholds that still hold you captive?

I think when you say HE is with you - always - you can trust even when it doesn't feel like he is - he is. sandie

It seems the older I get the more I need to realize how much He is with me. This season seems to be full of hurting people who need the touch of God on their lives and I'm always saying to myself "only Jesus can save this situation" almost every day!

I think the name Emmanuel speaks of power to me and a reminder to me that He is with us. I love the different names of our Lord.

Emmanuel to me means God's ever present help! I need him to keep my heart focused on things above. 'Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love. Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.'
How easy to get distracted with what this world says is important.
This is a great idea, Sharon, to share our hearts together on a certain theme.

God with us - it is overwhelming to me that our Creator humbled Himself to come as a helpless baby and depended on the care of His own creation. It is beautiful to me that He loves us that much!

Awesome WORD for Fan the Flame!!!

Emmanuel... God with me...

Really powerful questions:
What does it mean to you to have Emmanuel (God with you) in your life?

Where does Emmanuel need to come and rescue you?

What are the strongholds that still hold you captive?

Not so power filled answers because I really need to ponder about such deep questions when my head is filled with cold stuff or meds (lol)...

Without even having to think about this, I depend on God to be with me. So
HE IS WITH ME means everything to me. I need His constant companionship and totally rely that HE IS... even when I do not sense His awesome presence,it is so reassuring to know that HE IS WITH ME... of course,in my entire life, I have needed Him with me, but there are times that my behavior did not show that I acknowledged Him as being with me and that makes me feel some shame.

Every day I need Him to lift me up, encourage me, let me know He is with me, but needing to come and rescue me, for right now, I must just say from Mexico... yet going home would mean a whole 'nther kind of rescue... have to ponder this... however I daily need Him to fill me up, guide me and keep my feet on the path He's ordained before me,moving ahead, not looking back...

May God ransom me from 'whatever' strongholds are keeping me captive from being and shining His Light... identifying strongholds like pride or rebellion is not so easy for me... I believe He has ransomed me and broken the chains that have bound me... but every so often I (with God's help) have to rattle those chains and be sure that they are broken in my life and that I am walking freely because of Christ in me. May His Spirit reveal any remnants that need to be broken in me. Actually, I can't think of any strongholds that I could confess yet I pray that they no longer exist in me. But this reflection has taken me right back to where I started this year with Beth Moore's study on Breaking Free... "and He who the Son sets free is free indeed"

"O Come, O Come Emmanuel"... reflecting and listening to the song with this in mind and by the power of His Spirit realizing the immensity of the words!
(not just for Israel but for me)

MY WORD FOR 2016

GRATEFUL

Grateful: feeling or showing thanks to someone for some helpful act; appreciative of benefits received; warmly or deeply thankful; indebted; beholden.

Word origin: 1550's, "pleasing to the mind," also "full of gratitude," from obsolete adj. grate "agreeable, thankful," from Latin gratus "pleasing" – derived from the same word origin as the word "grace."

The trick to changing your behavior is to become more thankful.

The practice of gratitude involves a focus on the present moment, on appreciating your life as it is today and what has made it so.

Let us begin an eternal quest to express in new and creative ways our thanks to God.

So I'm breathing in Your grace,

And I'm breathing out Your praise.

Let our prayers be the overflow of a grateful heart to God.

Three steps in prayer:

PRAISE – praise, reverence, worship, adoration, and awe for who God is and what He does

ASK – honest, earnest, and intense requests

THANK YOU – always end with thanksgiving for everything

Pulpit commentary:

In everything give thanks.

In every circumstance – in joy and in sorrow; for everything – for prosperity and for adversity; in every place – in the house of God and on the bed of sickness.

Christians should not only be engaged in constant prayer, but in constant thanksgiving.

For this – this thankful spirit – is the will of God, His desire.

God by the gift of his Son has laid us under the obligation of perpetual thanksgiving. Our whole lives ought to be one continued thank-offering for all the blessings of redemption.

Gill's Exposition:

Thanks are to be given to him for all things…

For all temporal good things;

for our beings, the preservation of them;

for food and raiment, and all the mercies of life;

for the means of grace, the word and ordinances, and the ministers of the Gospel;

for spiritual blessings, for electing, redeeming, regenerating, adopting, pardoning, justifying, and persevering grace:

for a meetness for heaven, a right unto it, and a good hope of it;

and especially for Jesus Christ, for such a…Saviour, and advocate with the Father, as he is; and for life, peace, joy, comfort, righteousness, and salvation in him.

Thanks should be given to God in every circumstance of life; in adversity, as Job did; when not in so comfortable and agreeable a frame of soul as to be wished for…even under the temptations of Satan…since the grace of God is sufficient to bear up under them, and deliver out of them.

WHAT IS LOVE?
