"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Examine

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: examine

What does the word examine mean to you?

How do you examine your life? Are you too hard on yourself, or too easy?

How do you think God wants us to examine ourselves - what conclusions does He want us to make?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. To me, it means to test areas in my life to see if they pass the "genuine" test. I don't think of it as a full body scan where I test the whole Debbie. I think of it more as an examination part by part. (Pretty much based on what's ailing me at the time.)

If you ask my husband, he would say that I am too hard on myself. It irks him, in fact. If you ask me, I would say I'm spot on.

  2. I examine toooooooooo much...and always through a critical eye. I think it is easy to actual become too self absorbed and that becomes a sin. I forget He sees me through the blood and not my acts of unrighteousness. Paul addresses this

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? (2 Corinthians 13:5-6).

  3. Examine... To look at my self from God's eye view.

Focusing on God and His direction for my life, not on seeking only pleasure or great things for myself.

I will, "Love the LORD my God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all my heart and all my soul." (Adapted from Joshua 22:5 NLT)

Last year I made some mistakes. What's important is that I learn from all mistakes made in the past to avoid making them again.

"Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning." Lamentations 3:23 NLT

  5. To me, examine means to take a long hard look at myself, the way I think God would see me. To strip myself down, and prepare to become more than I am.

  6. Examine, I think to evaluate. To think about your life, is it going how you want it to go to honor God? To take time to stop and think and refocus and change things that might need to be changed or to ask for forgiveness from God for something, etc. I think we all need to take the time daily to examine our hearts, motives, etc.

    Happy weekend Sharon!

  8. Hi Sharon, Happy New Year!
I love the look of your blog. Yes, it's been awhile since I've been a bloggin.

Examine means to test, search and align myself with God's Word and perspective of me.

    God Bless!

  10. Hi Sharon,

I think sometimes too easy, sometimes too hard. Guess others have told me I am too hard on myself, I sometimes think I am not hard enough, but it is something I try not to do too often, perhaps I am wrong.

Have a good weekend - God Bless - Nita.

  11. Look at myself in light of God's word...Does how I am living line up with it? Is there sin in my life I need to confess?

  12. I think it is easier to examine someone else than it is for me to examine myself. It's something I need to work on. Thank you for the reminder.
    Blessings,

  13. Bless you Sharon...

1.What does the word examine mean to you?
2.How do you examine your life?
3.Are you too hard on yourself, or too easy?
4.How do you think God wants us to examine ourselves - what conclusions does He want us to make?

    1. examine = looking it over, inspecting it more closely or inquiring into it carefully...
    2. next question... meticulously I rehash it in my mind all the time, especially bad or wrong choices, sin,
    and unresolved conflicts
    3. always too hard and internalize much but if I repeat the same thing even more but I would have to admit if I am repeating it...perhaps I was too easy, meaning I did not examine it thoroughly
    4. Hopefully, that we are learning and
we can examine and forgive ourselves and others and the conclusions is that which I call our identity in Christ spelled out at the bottom of my blog and now in Monday Manna... we see ourselves being transformed in a continual process of being refined and re sculpted into the image that we are meant to be in Christ: REDEEMED, SANCTIFIED, and ACCEPTED as we look closely at the good He created and put it in us and see that in each other, not just the bad but the good, especially in the others that we see as unloveable, un teachable, un reachable,
different than us... since we all are a reflection of Our Creator!!!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
