"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Priority

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: priority

What does it mean to make something a priority?

How does what we claim as a priority tell people something about our heart?

What do you make a priority in your walk of faith?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. I think that word has been said in our house a thousand times this last week...so you can see we don't have it down. To me priorities are those things I actually do instead of the things I think I am suppose to do...if it is a priority then I make time for it...what is sad is so many times what we tell others are our priorities well, they aren't seen in our actions.
Thanks for the fan the flame..as I continue to get my priorities in order

  2. Priority is a good thing to think about - you go along thinking one thing is your priority and within a second something else can take it's place - so always have God with you. sandie

  5. If something is a priority in my life it is not optional for me to pay attention to it. I HAVE to!

My priorities (and everyone else's) are constantly on my mind; they are what I talk about, and what determines what I do. Therefore based on what I think, say and do people will know what my priorities are.

My greatest priorities are: increasing my intimacy with the Lord, studying His Word and ministering to His people.

  6. Hi Sharon,

One of my frequent prayers, is for the Lord's help for me and my family to get our priorities right.

    Thanks for highlighting this.

    God Bless - Nita

  7. Okay Sharon, Here goes my thoughts...

    Priority:

Visualize this, I have a list of things to do (it may be in my head, it may be written on a piece of paper). At the TOP of my list, especially the one in my head (okay I'm a list maker) is the MOST IMPORTANT thing, working down the list to the least important.

Okay, so top of list, GOD, bottom of list, blogging.

With that being said, GOD is always first, always front and centre in my life, but spending time with Him is not necessarily the first thing I do each day. Why? I hear you ask.

Simply, because my number one priority, spending time with God, learning and living His word can't be achieved in five minutes or less. To do this, I must make sure that I use my time wisely, so that I have ample time to spend with God.

He's on my list of priorities, number one always, but it's not a list where I can check it off with a big red tick and get that warm fuzzy felling and sense of relief that I'm so glad I've taken care of that matter, now there's one less thing to do.

    No, no, no!

In my walk of faith, I need plenty of quiet time (no clock watching), to sit, pray, read, and mediate on God's word.

The Scripture that I'm thinking of now, is Matthew 20:16 - "So the last will be first, and the first last.”

    Are you with me?

As always, it great to spend time here with you and "Fan the Flame," have a great weekend!

    Love, Kerrie xoxo

  8. Love your thoughts, always.

What does it mean to make something a priority?

To put something in first place. To deal with the things that are important, not just urgent or distracting. A conscious commitment of will to place value on someone, something, or some action.

How does what we claim as a priority tell people something about our heart?

The first thing that comes to my mind is this verse: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Luke 12:34) The things that I make priorities are the things that I care about, the things that I value. It doesn't matter what I SAY are my priorities - my actions will speak louder than my words.

What do you make a priority in your walk of faith?

I make it a priority to be in the Word daily, to attend Bible Study and church, to pray. But, the most important thing of all, is to seek a continuing and deepening relationship with God.

"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need." Matthew 6:33

    GOD BLESS!

  9. It is so important to set priorities. It's true that people judge you not so much by what you say as they do by what you do. Your priorities are not hidden from others and certainly not from God. Thank you for this encouraging post. It isn't always easy to keep our priorities in the right order.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
