SATURDAY STROLL - Sleep In Peace

Welcome to "SATURDAY STROLL!"

In these posts I will be interacting with Scripture – making it a conversational walk of faith.

Sometimes we'll be talking with Jesus, sometimes God will be talking with us.

There might even be *guest appearances* by some of our beloved characters from the Bible!

So put on your walking shoes – you know we can all use the exercise!

A DIALOGUE FOR THE INSOMNIAC

I lay down...

Be still, and know that I am God.  (Psalm 46:10)

and slept...

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe. (Psalm 4:8)

I woke up in safety...

You can go to bed without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly.
(Proverbs 3:24)

for the LORD was watching over me...

What's more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go.
(Genesis 28:15)

I am not afraid...

Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.  (Isaiah 41:10)

of ten thousand enemies who surround me on every side...

You have already won a victory...because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.  (1 John 4:4)

But you, O LORD, are a shield around me;
you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.

Victory comes from you, O LORD.
May you bless your people.

Ho hum...I'm finally feeling sleepy.

Zzzzzzzz...

(Selections from Psalm 3)

  1. There is the occasional night that I find myself restless. One such incident occur the other night. Because I had to go to work the next morning, I finally resorted to taking benadryl. Other times I read until I feel sleepy.

  2. This was great, Sharon; needed it for last night; will have to remember it for the next time. I do suffer a bit from insomnia. I lay there letting my mind go crazy places; I try to remember scripture and quote that but oftentimes my mind goes all over the place. But these are all great scriptures to make sure I know!

    have a good day!

  4. Hi Sharon,

Yes I do sometimes now, I did last night, usually it is either because the room is too hot, or I have much on my mind. I am inclined when I wake up to say "Okay Lord, who and what should I be praying for" sometimes a person or situation comes to mind and I pray and then fall asleep again. However, sometimes like last night I don't fall back to sleep so easily and things just go round and round in my mind.

Have a great Sunday - Nita

  5. Wonderful job, Sharon and God.

Yes, I suffer from it terribly. I would love to say that I am faithful to pray right away, but usually I try to watch TV or some other very UNproductive thing. My sister always prays immediately. She figures that God woke her up for a reason.

  6. If a person can't sleep, getting up is not the answer - - unless it is a nagging something you forgot to do. Such as write down the thought God just gave you for your next post. Praying for the missionaries, and naming your loved ones in a blessing prayer usualy send me to sleep.

  7. When I can't sleep, usually a conversation with God is all I need to chase that old demon "insomnia" away! God knows what I need, and has almost always provided me with a wonderful, restful sleep, right after I hand Him my cares...yet again!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
