"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Willing

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: willing

What does it mean to be willing to do something?

Do you think a willing spirit changes the way you perceive a situation?  If yes, how so?

What are you willing to do for the Lord?

Let me know what you think!!

"If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land..."
(Isaiah 1:19, NIV)

"Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you." (Psalm 51:12, NLT)

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. The will is powerful, for sure. I think when I've surrendered my will to Him, I've seen wonders. I've heard words come out of my mouth that I never would have spoken except through Him, encouraging words. Makes one wonder why we don't always surrender the will to Him.

    Thanks for the question!

  2. AWANA know what inspired this word for the week. It wouldn't have anything to do with that little fist you shake to God, now, would it?

To me, a willing heart is one that is ready, even if it hasn't reached the "eager" stage. It's a heart that trusts that if God asks you to do it, there will be no eternal harm and only eternal good. I don't think that willingness equals the absence of fear of the reality of earthly pain or sacrifice. I think Jesus himself showed us that in the garden. It just means that the desire to please the Father is stronger than any other emotion.

    Clear as grout?

  3. When I think of the word "willing" it implies a surrender. We tend to think of "willing" in terms of "ready, willing, and able" which somehow implies an eagerness to do a thing. But I think the most telling example of a willing heart is in the situations where you don't feel ready, where you don't feel able, when you don't really want to do something, but you are WILLING to do it anyway. It's an attitude, a heart-decision that isn't made in a moment-by-moment basis or as each new request is made. It's a condition, a state of being that says "No matter what is asked, I will say yes, and then I will see it through"

  6. Willing to me as to do with my heart attitude. We can do a lot of things with the wrong motives and/or in the wrong spirit.

  7. Sharon, great to find you! I got here from Spiritual Sundays. I too am an empty-nester coping with the life change/transistion!

Willing is one of those LOADED words ... and should be used thoughtfully and sincerely. It opens our life up to God's possibilities, no?

  8. What does it mean to be willing to do something?

It means to have a heart of humility, the heart of a servant. It means making a choice to do something. Sometimes being willing means putting aside your own agenda.

Do you think a willing spirit changes the way you perceive a situation? If yes, how so?

Absolutely. A willing spirit can give you the sense of humble servanthood that makes the work easier. A willing spirit considers what it is doing as a work done for the Lord. A willing spirit doesn't gripe or complain. A willing spirit knows that the Father will give reward - either in this life or the next.

What are you willing to do for the Lord?

At this point in my life, I am willing to work in a children's ministry - even though I feel very, very challenged!! Lord, help me with the noise!! :)

    GOD BLESS!

  9. Willing is the keyword. If we are willing, He will lead us in the way we should go. Thanks for sharing this important word.

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
