"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Renew

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: renew

What does the word renew mean to you?

Renew or change - do you think there's a difference?  If yes, please explain!

What is one thing you would like to have the Holy Spirit renew in your life?

Let me know what you think!!

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me."  (Psalm 51:10, ESV)

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. I think change is different from renewal in that change is like stepping forward, but renewal is like stepping back and starting all over again.

What I desire most (and this is a pretty regular one for me) is for the Holy Spirit to renew the joy of my salvation and the faith of the little child.

  3. I have to go with Debbie on this one... she said it just like I think it! It's a good word, and seems to always apply!

  4. I too am going to agree with what Debbie said; she said it so well. I do think renewal is different than change; I definitely need more renewal to help me deal better with change :)

  5. Hi Sharon

I think renewal is different to change also. I need a renewal of enthusiasm and zeal to serve the Lord.

    God Bless - Nita

  8. I would say the two are different. Renew makes me think bringing something back to its original state, whereas, change is making something totally different.

  9. To me, change is something different from what it once me. However renew is to make something new again.

  10. What does the word renew mean to you?

It means to make new again. It's like a do-over. The chance to right a wrong. To start afresh.

Renew or change - do you think there's a difference? If yes, please explain!

Yup, I do think there's a difference. Change is going in a different direction - it implies something altogether different and new. Renew is taking something that was new at one time, and revitalizing it, giving it new life.

It's like this - if I cut my hair into a new style, I'm changing it. But if I go and get my gray hair colored, I'm renewing it!

What is one thing you would like to have the Holy Spirit renew in your life?

I would like to have the Holy Spirit renew my sense of contentment and peace in my new life here on the mountain. I would like to have my strength and courage renewed.

    Yes, Lord, please!!

Thanks for all your wonderful comments!

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
