"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Wisdom

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: wisdom

How would you define the word wisdom?

As we head into 2011, in what area of your life are you lacking, or need the most wisdom?

Let me know what you think!!

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Oh Sharon, I will have to come back on this one, at the moment, I would say most if not all areas. Have a wonderful New Year celebration and a blessed 2011

  2. I'm just a hot mess in most areas.
I have been flopping around in this empty nest thing since the fall, and I'm still not doing it well. I need wisdom regarding my "here and now" and DEFINITELY wisdom about how to walk forward on this path of mine. Since I'm still not sure which way to turn, I feel a bit paralyzed.

But then, you knew that, didn't you?

  3. Hi Sharon & Happy New Year. I would define wisdom as the ability to discern not just what to do but the appropriate time to do it. I need His wisdom in every area of my life.

  4. Happy New Year, Sharon! I think that true wisdom is shown through our ability to listen to God...to seek Him in all we say and do. It is a wise person who can put self aside and put God first. That's what I want to do...put self aside and live for Him!

    Blessings to you, Joan

  5. Dear Sharon, You have me smiling from the millie second I start to read your page. I'm short and you are ever so sweet! Wisdom... A wonderful word choice! It’s amazing how our thoughts are so much on the same wave length (I had this very word on my mind earlier this week). And you've gone and done it again. Another of my oh, so, favorite verses. Thank you Sharon, A great reminder for me for the new year, Kerrie, do not fear! Praise the Lord, for he has given us a brand new year and with Him we shall not fear! May this New Year bring many opportunities your way, to explore every joy of life and may your resolutions for the days ahead stay firm, turning all your dreams into reality and all your efforts into great achievements. I especially wish for you a double dose of health and happiness topped with loads of love and God's loving care. Have a great year ahead! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! With love and care from Kerrie. xOx

  6. I think wisdom is knowing what to do with the knowledge that you have and knowing when to do it. Real wisdom is a divine gift from God. It's not something that can be found in a book or a classroom. It starts with a healthy dose of humility and awe toward God (Psalm 111:10)and a heart that is yielded to Him and His leadership. We're encouraged, in James 1:5, to ask God for it because He is so ready and willing to lavish it upon us. Our family will forever be in need of HIS wisdom and, yes, there are some places where we could use an extra measure. But I'm entering 2011 confident that He will supply all that we need. Because He said so. :-)
Happy New Year, Sharon! Blessings to you in 2011!

  7. For me, I need to use wisdom and LISTEN to the Lord...obeying His Word, obeying His promptings, walking out the truths I know.

Happy New Year, sweet encourager! You are a blessing!

  8. I always think of the - God grant me the courage to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the WISDOM to know the difference.

Has a lot to do with wisdom.

  9. Nita - Always a good idea to turn to God for wisdom in everything! Seems like a very "wise" approach to life!!

Debbie - You're my favorite hot mess. Because I can relate. Trusting God, even when you DON'T know which way to turn, that is the beginning of wisdom.

Wanda - A GREAT definition. Including WHAT to do and WHEN to do it. I thought that was such a good insight. I'm tucking that into my heart...

Joan - YES! Wisdom is the ability to get our SELVES out of the way! Seek the Lord first, and above everything else - that's the secret to wisdom.

Kerrie - I am also amazed at our coinciding "wavelengths!" Wisdom is what I want from the Lord - and then the courage to follow where His wisdom leads me! Thanks for all the lovely wishes - they sounded almost like an ice cream sundae - I gobbled them up! I wish all that and more for you and Jaiden this year!

Melissa - Your comments would make a great blog post! So articulately said. Wisdom begins with humility and awe - understanding that wisdom is a gift, and its only source is God. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Kimberly - Yup, I'd have to agree. Wisdom begins with keeping my mouth shut, and my heart open to listening. Walking the walk - not just talking the talk. Amen.

Sandie - A perfect thing to share as we're talking about wisdom. I'm so glad you thought of it. Wisdom includes the ability to DISCERN - between right and wrong, between my will and God's will, between things I can control and things I can't. Perfect...

I'm so glad you all visited and shared your "wise" words. I am reminded of these two passages from Scripture - I think they speak to wisdom quite well.

Proverbs 3:5-7 "Lean not unto thine own understanding..."

(From 1 Corinthians 1) - "God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish...But to those called by God to salvation...Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans...For our benefit God made [Christ] to be wisdom itself."

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
