Welcome to "Quaint Words!”
These posts will contain thoughts, poems, and prayers from old books that I have found at antique stores, flea markets, and garage sales (with an occasional treasure from a bookstore).
I love the rhythm and sound of the older English language, and am blessed by other believers who have gone before me!

ReplyDeleteI'll add in not such quaint words that as a nation OF the people, we must also lift the individual hearts of all Americans to God and intercede for individual conviction.
Too often, we lament the loss of decency and godliness in our leaders and forget that it was a sense of individual indecency that made them leaders to begin with.
This probably doesn't make sense like I want it to. I was low on coffee this morning.
Debbie made perfect sense and I wholeheartedly agree! Terrific idea, Sharon - sharing "quaint words". I will be doing the same on occasion as I, too, have an extensive antique book collection. Love to read classic novels from their oldest editions. I also love finding those treasures of virtuous prose so plentiful in the day. The cover designs can be real works of art - I decorate with my collections (as you might note in some of my photos.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder to pray for those in leadership here in our country. It may be true that in the course of offering prayers to our Lord that we focus on our own personal concerns, forgetting to intercede on behalf of those who lead; the decision makers of our country.
I also wanted to respond to the comment you left regarding Adam. I agree that it was an act of disobedience by Adam; of this I have no doubt. I was simply trying to depict Adam as a type of Christ who failed in the area of obedience.
It is my own thought regarding Adam's decision, whatever his motive was, he disobeyed God; and we all bear the punishment and condemnation for his act of disobedience. When confronted by God, he chose not to accept responsibility; choosing instead to deflect it upon God and Eve. Was that an act of love? Yes, it was an act of selfish, self-serving love. It is something which I believe has been passed along to all men, since we often blame others for our own failure.
The gift of God's salvation through Jesus Christ, brings us to the place of biblical honesty and truth; empowering us (men) to "man up" before God.
Thank you my sister for sharing your insight. You give me balance and perspective.

This is a timely post for July 4... a timely message for all of us, not just Americans, to pray for America who is really at the crossroads of destiny.

Debbie - Your thoughts made PERFECT sense. And I so agree. Indecent and ungodly hearts lead to the same in our leadership. I also hope and pray for a return of individual conviction - for a return to the values and morals that made this country strong.

And tell Betsy that she made one very beautiful flag - it always makes my heart swell - every time I see it. (I love how you decorate with your collections, Kathy - and I'll look forward to you sharing some of your "quaint words"!)
Sandie - Oh we owe so much to the men and women who have fought, and those who have died, for the sake of freedom. I am also so very grateful to them for their sacrifice.
MTJ - You're right. I tend to be a little myopic in my prayers - limiting them to my *immediate* world. We should be interceding for the leaders of our country and our world. (Thanks for clarifying your Adam thoughts. I understand what you were saying much better now. It's great to have your insight - always good to hear what a man has to say!)
Lidj - I think you've said it well. I also believe that America is at a crossroads of destiny. And quite frankly, I am concerned about the direction this country is headed. I will continue to pray, and to vote my conscience - knowing that ultimately all things are under the Sovereign rule of our Almighty God.
