"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Anxious

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: anxious

What kinds of things make you anxious?

How do you deal with anxious feelings?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. lol! I'm familiar with that word!! I can get anxious about many things...if I let myself. So, I have been focusing on "giving it to God" whenever I feel that way. When I pray and release the concerns that cause me anxiety, a peace settles on my soul. I know God can handle things MUCH better than I can, and I am so grateful!

    Blessings, Joan

  2. OK, my two cents.

I think we Christians play fast and loose with the idea of being anxious. We tie it too readily to worry, and we tie both of them too readily to the admonition/caution of Jesus. In so doing, well- meaning Christians (or... OK, maybe just plain pious ones)make folks who are already anxious feel even worse.

The anxious Christian becomes anxious about being anxious. In walks guilt and shame, and the wheels on the bus go round and round... round and round...

    That's not from God, IMO.

When I studied that word in Christ's teaching, it really carries a mean of being distracted or pulled in many directions. Puts a whole new spin on it, doesn't it?

So anyway, I think being anxious is really having an agitated or heavy heart. It becomes sin when we let it distract us from the Father.
We glorify Him, not just by trusting him to the point of no anxiety, but when we climb into His lap as a little child and trust Him to hold us through it.

Anyway, that's my opinion. Charles Hadden Spurgeon I ain't... so others might disagree.

  4. Anxiety is my middle name, Sharon. LOL. I'm one of the most anxious people I know and I know it is not what God wants me to be. Lot of my anxiety was (is) still over son and of course the choices he made weren't always good ones, which then made me more anxious. How do I deal with anxiety? I literally have to remember God is in control and he is right with me. I have had to picture him holding me in the palm of his hand or like a sheep over his shoulder. I have a lot of trust scriptures written down to refer to. And sometimes I just say "help me Lord" when I feel so anxious it is hard to breathe. So yes, anxiety and me are good friends yet I know God doesn't want me to be anxious. I'm really trying to just trust in him and let it go; some days and seasons are better than others!

    another good word!

  6. My anxiety comes with changes in my life. I have gotten better over the years to take one day at a time and to remember to walk hand in hand with Jesus. He is my strength and my refuge even when changes come about.

  7. Ah! That's been my word of the day for a few weeks, now - decidedly since mid-August and ALL of September when school started and I've been upended. Anxious might even be too tame a word. What a roller coaster ride - and never knowing what's to come next - or if I shall even have a job tomorrow!

Anxiiety working in a secular, worldly atmosphere with not a singele like mind in the building. Lord - be my companion and keep me that I do not fall . . .

Yes - anxious that I will fall on unstable ground.
Hope you're faring will, though, my dear!

    Joy sorta, in the journey!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
