Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.
This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)
Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!
Today's word: knowledge
What is knowledge, and does knowledge make you smart? Does it give you common sense?
What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?
How does human knowledge compare to God’s knowledge?
Let me know what you think!!
"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

Your questions really make me think Sharon. I think the difference in knowledge and wisdom is that knowledge is knowing how to do something but wisdom is knowing the when to do it.
ReplyDeleteI think knowledge is what you know, either from study or experience. I think wisdom is not only knowing what you know but knowing what you DON'T know (metacognition... one of my favorite words) and bringing all of it to the table for application.
ReplyDeleteYou can not be wise if you think you know it all.
Wise people are seekers by nature, IMO.
Obviously God knows everything. I agree with Debbie - we are seekers of knowledge and wisdom - not sure we ever get there.

Knowledge is the act of knowing, of taking what you have learned and then doing something with it. Wisdom is putting knowledge to work and making right decisions with what you have to work with through learning, experience, etc. I think there is a difference between the two and I know if we ask God for wisdom, he will definitely give it to us; asking for his wisdom I believe is a good thing!

Good word! I use it a lot at school. Well, I think about it a lot. Or the lack therein that our young people acquire with so many voices and choices leading them down the path of entertainment. My heart breaks for the things our youth do NOT know - and all the useless information and knowledge that they do have.
ReplyDeleteApart from the knowledge of the Lord, all worldly knowledge is vanity - as the Preacher would say. But, than again - there's nothing new under the sun.
To Know Him - that is the ultimate knowledge. All else will follow into its place - Knowledge and her sister - Understanding.
Joy!
Kathy
Knowledge is often simply the accumulation of data, facts, etc.
ReplyDeleteBut knowledge rightly applied ... is wisdom. And as those above said, that only comes from above.
