TA DA! PHOTO OF ME AND "THE HUB"

YES!

There we are - in living color!

(Our faces are big because I took this photo - holding the camera out at arm's length!)

I know you've all been wondering what my *cowboy* looks like - well, here he is! I know I'm kinda partial, but isn't he a *keeper*?!

So, in his honor, I am re-posting something I wrote in August, 2010. I hope that you'll enjoy it!

IN HIS FOOTSTEPS

Sometimes following is not an easy thing to do. Some of us are not natural followers. We want to lead, to choose our own way, and trust our own judgment. And more often than not, that is when we really lose our way.

My husband and I love to go camping. Quite often we go hiking. Some of these hikes are more like leisurely strolls that don't wander far from familiar pathways. But sometimes we just strike out and go where our feet take us. We don't go with a map, we don't take a compass or a GPS devicewe just walk.

And yet, I can honestly say that I have never been afraid of getting lost.

You know why?

I trust my husband.

Sometimes when we've been hiking for a long time I get really hot and tired, and sometimes I don't think I can take another step. What do I do? I keep my husband in my sights ahead of me, and I just plod on after him.

On one particular hike in Joshua Tree National Park in California, the full realization of what I was doing hit me. We were making our way back to camp after a full day of hiking and exploring. It was starting to get a little dark, I was thirsty, and I was completely tuckered out.

We were going in the general direction of where we had left the car – at least we thought so!!

But the going was tough.

Joshua Tree is beautiful in its own desert way – but for hiking, it's just dirt, scrubby bushes, and endless boulders to scramble over. Each footstep became harder and harder. I was so tired I could barely look up. But as long as I could see the faint traces of my husband's footprints in the dirt, I just placed my feet in line with his…and followed.

God taught me a great lesson that day.

We are to TRUST Him…and follow.

Look for His footprints, place one foot in front of the other in line with His, and go where He leads. Jesus issued this challenging invitation throughout the New Testament…and it's the same thing He calls us to today"Come, follow Me."

I'd like to encourage all of you to start each day by praying to the Lord, telling Him that you are ready to listen to His voice and to follow where He leads. Be ready. He may lead you through sadness or suffering. He may lead you through pain. He may bring you into a wilderness, or have you climb some boulders.

But always remember this -

He goes with you EACH and EVERY step of the way!

So onward
I plod
planting my feet
in the
firm footholds
He has already made,
trusting Him
completely,
and knowing
I am totally safe –
as long as I follow…
I am
accompanied by
His sense of peace
along the way,
for I know
that
Someone who loves me
is leading me,
and He will
bring me safely
home
if I just trust Him
and follow…

…in His footsteps.

Happy Trails, my friends!

Go with God!

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they FOLLOW ME."
(John 10:27 – NLT)

Where is God calling you to let Him lead? Are you willing to follow?

  4. First things first...great picture!
And how ironic, I usually end my day with reading your blog, but today, the day you say to START the day with a prayer, I was here reading. So I will start my day with a prayer you encouraged me to say...Lord, guide my feet...let me follow You.

  5. Wow, Sharon! I didn't realize you were married to Sam Elliott! LOL. I'm sure he gets told of the resemblance a lot. Such a lovely couple you all are! Thanks so much for sharing the picture and this wonderful prayer.

  6. I love the picture! I had already seen you, but I love seeing the Cowboy. He is just that, too. I can't remember the name, but he looks so much like a famous cowboy actor. I can't even think of the movie or mini series that he is best known for. I'm drawing a blank. I just know he's hunky.

I love this post this morning. I think I love it even more so because I have a face to go with the feet. The poem is wonderful, too. I hear a voice in this post that I haven't heard in a while.

  9. well I just LOVE this picture!! He is a double for Sam Elliott. I am also smitten with the turquoise!

You are a darling pair and I can just picture you doing the 2 step together! He really looks like one of the guys from my hubby's western and antique gun shows... I have a hunch they would get along just fine. 2 Warriors and 2 cowboys! :)

  10. That's a great picture of the two of you. And I have to agree with the comments above: Your Hub looks very similar to Sam Elliot! (It must be the impressive 'stash!). And yes, we can trust God to lead us along the best path for our lives if we simply follow His footsteps! Blessings!

  12. Okay, so everyone teases me when they find out that my name is Kathryn Ross.

"Oh - the actress?" they comment. "Say - aren't you married to Sam Elliot?"

My husband laughs it off - no Sam Elliot is he. He and Rob Evans (remember, The Donut Man of children's ministry fame?) well, those two could be brothers.

So - it would appear that YOU are married to Sam Elliot! A striking resemblance - and a cowboy at that!

Loved your lesson - reminds me of the Celtic Christmas hymn about Good King Wencelas on the Feast of Stephen.

Walking in his footsteps as He leads . . . blessed in meeting precious sisters like you along the way . . .

    Joy!
    Kathy

I just realize that I missed this when visiting your "Mon. Morning quaterback" post. I mean I saw this but never commented... and I'm out of time... but I had to give a little feedback here and let you know that I still have 6 more plus the ones I inadvertently erred by clicking in GR "All" and it marked them all as seen...grrrrrrrr so now I don't know except for the 6. I'm still trying but this will be the last of me til next Weds.

I like this "IN HIS FOOTSTEPS" and beautiful POEM... do you have a collection of these? I just realized that Mon. you get more feedback because you link to so many places.
Good for you! Love to you, I do miss you but I am reading just not visiting and commenting as much (yeah, that'll be the day) maybe I should go with less as more to accomplish catching up... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Praying and believing, hoping you are feeling better... (((hugs))) since they're virtual, we're ok... Peggy

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
