BIBLE "PICK 'EMS" - Victory!

Today’s “Bible Pick ‘Ems” comes from the book of Joshua.

Moses, the great leader of the Israelites, handpicked Joshua to be his assistant. God later confirmed his choice when He instructed Moses to commission Joshua as his successor (Numbers 27:15-23).

Joshua was a hero. He was smart, confident, brave, and faithful to God.

Today’s verses are inspiring. They talk about courage – courage that comes from complete trust in a powerful God, a God who assures us of victory.

Joshua 10:8, 25, 42

“ ‘Do not be afraid of them,’ the LORD said to Joshua, ‘for I have given you victory over them. Not a single one of them will be able to stand up to you.’

‘Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged,’ Joshua told his men, ‘for the LORD is going to do this to all of your enemies.’

“…for the LORDwas fighting for his people.”

Who are our enemies?

Temptations, struggles, failures, suffering – so many earthly circumstances threaten to steal away our peace. They can lead us into the dark valleys of discouragement, destruction, and despair.

And there is another enemy – a very real enemy – Satan. He is described in the Bible as a “devouring lion.” He is constantly on the hunt, looking for ways to ruin us – to steal away our trust in a good God. He has clever and effective weapons. He knows how to get to us at our weakest point. He delights in our vulnerability.

But, we too can claim the promise of God“Not a SINGLE ONE OF THEM will be able to stand up to you.”

The very same God who empowered Joshua, is the same God who will help us with ALL of our needs.

He ALONE gives us victory – He ALONE delivers us from our enemies.

“No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

"If God is for us, who can ever be against us?" (Romans 8:31b)

How goes your battle?!

  1. Blessings Sharon, I lost my comment (which I can't afford to do when my time is running out) because I went to click on another of your posts.
Grrrrrrrrr... so I'll attempt to capture the essence once again.

I have a tendency to go back to the original, which I did in your case and discovered this well written
post without comments. So it merited having my response here rather than at the Bible Pick'ems of Feb. 12, 2012.

I needed this reminded of "who are my enemies?" both seen and unseen and to be strong and courageous as Joshua! Yet even more, I needed the assurance of God's Promise that you share. I often forget to rest in the fact that the battle belongs to the Lord and in fact, Jesus already won the Victory.

    I found this so interesting looking at the archive of this month and seeing that you could have chosen;
"Woe is me" (apropos to your current sickness or mine or dilemmas we face) or "light of hope" but you chose "Victory" which I pray is OURS in Jesus today! (Btw, my next section of "light" is
"Light of Hope" and that's what caused me to loose my comment by going to check that one out but you moved it to Bible Pick'ems and did not link it to that exact post - do you know how to do that? now, if not I'll gladly explain. let me know! Is that why you didn't have comments? Maybe I should copy and paste this one in BP'ems too (since that's my space)!

So thankful that our victory is in Christ alone and is won. Now if we can just rest in that and get'on with purposeful battles that need to be won and stand in that with Jesus' victory. Hallelujah! "We've got the victory... and everything will be... alright, alright... 'cuz we're on the winning side!" Now can we get our feelings to line up with our beliefs. let's hope and pray that we stand strong and courageous in Jesus! Come what may... Joshua led the way!

Love you, miss you and let's face it an hour in a public cyber goes way to fast for me to catch up like you do-thanks so much!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
