QUAINT WORDS

Welcome to "Quaint Words!”

These posts will contain thoughts, poems, and prayers from old books that I have found at antique stores, flea markets, and garage sales (with an occasional treasure from a bookstore).

I love the rhythm and sound of the older English language, and am blessed by other believers who have gone before me!

(A listing of books and authors, and also dates of individual postings from those books, will be found on my "QUAINT WORDS" page)

SUPPLICATION

LORD, hear my prayer!
Turn not thine ear from my distress,
But with thy loving mercy bless,
Lest I despair.

Be gracious, Lord!
My soul is oft opprest and weak;
Oh! aid me when I comfort seek
In thy blest word.

My footsteps stray;
I wander often from the road
That leads to peace and thee my God;
Teach thou the way.

Oh! make me pure,
Clothe thou my soul in spotless white,
That my acceptance in thy sight
Be always sure.

Let me be one
Of all the sinless company
That round thy throne hosannahs sing,
Through Christ thy Son.

Thy will be done
On earth, as by each holy one,
Thy own redeemed, who near thy throne
Bow down the knee!

    Can you believe that!! Westmont Warriers!
    and yes.. tht photo is a shot of the admin.bldg. I couldn't find one of the dorm we used to have. That dorm has since been made into a beautiful retirement area, but I will always remember it as 'our dorm'. It was amazing!

    So many great Westmont memories. I sure loved it there.

  3. Hi Sharon -

    Thank you for this. I am loving "Bow down the knee!"

    Oh! Hallelujah! At the name of JESUS, every knee shall bow. Praise His holy name.

    Sidebar: Please visit Beverly's blog at www.wealthofcharacter.blogspot.com and read her TWO most recent posts (they are brief but potent.) I made a comment on each.

    I would love to know what your viewpoints are on the topics, please. If you are so inclined, please comment on Beverly's blog relative to those subject matters.

    Thank you, Sharon, for your consideration.

  4. Very beautiful one.

    I was trying to create a melody in my head as I read it. Do you ever do that?

  6. Love this paragraph....

    My footsteps stray;
    I wander often from the road
    That leads to peace and thee my God;
    Teach thou the way.

    I need to always stay on God's path as much as I want to forge my own..
    thank you so much for sharing this, Shar-on.
    Love you!

  7. Julie - A heart cries for help from the Lord - and the wonder is that He hears us. What blessed assurance - I will sing His hosannas!!

    Sonja - That just gave me "warm fuzzies" last night! Small world. My experience was also a wonderful one! Maybe we'll run into each other at a homecoming weekend sometime!

    Sandra - I'm so glad that you "blog-met" my friend, Janet! We're spending a writing weekend together. We both went over to Beverly's blog and left comments. I will say this - bravo for what she had to say! It was inspiring, and right on. She was speaking that "warrior language" that we LOVE so much, wasn't she?!

    Debbie - No, but I do hear little voice sometimes - does that count? Actually yes, I do make up little tunes - and even bobble my head a little. But then people really start to wonder. It doesn't matter - it's hard to contain those "Hallelujahs!"

    Sandie - I'm so glad you liked it. He truly is the best care-taker, isn't He? Watching out for us, guarding our hearts and minds, and protecting us from evil. He is the Eternal Comfort...

    Janet - Staying on the path, such a challenge - how I know that. I'm just so glad that God still holds me when I wander off, when I stumble, and when I just plain fall flat on my face! He is the Guiding Hand - our lamp in the darkened world. LOVE you, too.

    GOD BLESS - Oh, how I await the day to be one of the sinless company! Praising the Lord, on bended knee!!

  8. Hi Sharon,
    This was beautiful! Just wanted to bop over and thank you again for your prayers. I am sensing God's mighty power at work. It's been a good week of "fighting" and many victories! Fasting some of it and praying, and in the Word, being strengthened in my spirit, and focused on Him more. Home Church here at our house today and the sermon (not my hubby today) was awesome. All about "God Hears Our Prayers and He Cares for You!" Filled with Scripture and so encouraging.
    Blessings my friend!

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
