QUAINT WORDS

Welcome to "Quaint Words!”

These posts will contain thoughts, poems, and prayers from old books that I have found at antique stores, flea markets, and garage sales (with an occasional treasure from a bookstore).

I love the rhythm and sound of the older English language, and am blessed by other believers who have gone before me!

(A listing of books and authors, and also dates of individual postings from those books, will be found on my "QUAINT WORDS" page)

"My dearest Lord, humbly I thank Thee for accepting my poor heart as Thy resting-place. How good of Thee, my dearest Saviour, to come to me who think so seldom of Thee, who pass so little time with Thee...

Now that Thou are with me, dearest Lord, I beg Thee to give light to my soul, that I may see the path on which Thou wishest I should travel to eternity. Touch my eyes, that I may see the good there is for me to do, the weaknesses that should be strengthened, and the empty places that should be filled with kindness and thoughtfulness to others...

Give me the grace, my beloved Lord, to make of my life something worth while, to distinguish the true from false, gold from tinsel, Thy beautiful standards from the deceitful maxims of the world.

Give me grace to recognize Thy touch when Thou knockest at my heart's poor gate, that I may always open wide the door and welcome Thee..."

  3. Hi Sharon, I'm Lynn, nice to meet you. These beautiful words remind me of my grandmother. No, she did not speak with such proper elequence, but she was a "lady" through and through. I so love reading these words. Blessings.

  4. A worthy pray, my friend, no matter the century or era prayed. Timeless - classic request. May this be our prayer each day as we seek His face in who we are and what we do.

Much to catch up on - I've been busy with my grandbaby this week! :D

Back to the routine Monday. Visit me to meet my darling Kenzie and her parents. Posted for the Miracle Makeover.

    Joy!

Love this, especially the whole gold from tinsel imagery. I also loved the part about touching the eyes to see the empty places. I have been praying for God to let me see a certain situation through HIS eyes lately.

  6. Janette - I agree, a great prayer. Amen and amen!

Sandie - It's a pretty good prayer to start every day, don't you think?!

Lynn - WELCOME! What a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment. Hope you come back to visit again soon. Your grandmother sounds like the most wonderful person. I have many *quaint words* that I remember from time with my grandmother, too. They are a treasure that I value deeply.

Kathy - I went over and read/commented on the Mackenzie post. My goodness, what a tale of faith your son's life has been! Glory to God for His goodness. Your grandbaby is the most precious girl - and I'm sure your heart has been filled to the brim with joy this week!

Debbie - Yup, that was good, wasn't it? Inspiring, and convicting. Another one of those *love/hate* moments of truth. Been praying for all your situations - for HIS perspective on things. Sometimes I concentrate so much on the tinsel that you'd think I had a Christmas tree inside of me instead of a heart. Oh Lord - "All that glitters is not gold" - and that certainly applies to my spiritual life. Oh, open my eyes, dear Lord...

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
