"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Rich

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: rich

I know a person who is quite wealthy, but they aren't rich. Explain how that can be true.

What does it mean to you to be rich?

Let me know what you think!!

'This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. I think rich is often associated with material wealth or things but it's so much more than that. I think of rich has being full. I want a life full of God's presence, love, mercy, peace, laughter and hope.

  2. I came earlier but was waiting to copy off someone else's paper. I like what Wanda said about rich meaning FULL. That's just wonderful.

I think she's dead on. If you are full, fully satisfied, filled UP, you are rich regardless of how much "wealth" you have. I think, therefore, that richness comes from considering the treasure.

And I loved what she said about being "full" or rich in God's presence, love, mercy, etc.

    Very rich response indeed.

(I like the word "indeed". It's such a rich word.)

  3. I couldn't help but think of Steve Jobs as I read this. He was wealthy... I pray that somehow he was also rich before he died. From his comments, he didn't have the peace of God in his heart, but I hope he had some quiet and honest moments to rethink who God is, and where he stood as he faced eternity during those last weeks. Life is short!

  4. On Sonja's comment: I had the same thoughts about him, and I had a profound feeling of sadness.

  5. Hi Sharon,
I am tired as I read this, with lots going round in my head - Thank you for your visits and prayers. However I read the above comments and I think they have said, what I would say. Being rich does mean so much more then material wealth, rich in the spirit and power and love of Christ, is what I aim for.

    God Bless - Nita.

  6. P.S. I am pleased your husband's ankle is healing too, it does seem to be a lot about feet at the moment, on here, in the family, in church.

  7. Another good word, Sharon! I'm trying to think how you come up with these words; I wonder if you get them from the back of your Bible in the dictionary section?

Rich-an abundance of something; not necessarily material wealth, but blessings and like Wanda said rich of God's things, wisdom, love, etc. In fact I wrote a blog post about this scheduled to post on my other blog come Monday or Tuesday called "good gifts"

Here's the link to that other blog if you want it

  8. Interesting that you're thinking about this today. I just finished some playwriting for the holiday show at school and this was a topic I explored in the Mexican folktale, "Pepita and the Poinsettia" - where a poor little girl has nothing to bring to the Christ Child on Christmas Eve as is the tradition. She sweeps up some leafy weeds by the side of the road at the urging of her cousin who tells her "Any gift given by the humblest of hearts is acceptable to Him." She sees all the wealthy people in the village bringing their fine gifts, and shyly lays her offering before the Nativity - and - MIRACLE - the green leaves turn red and that's where the poinsettia comes from.

I included that because of her heart, she was now the richest of all the villagers.

Fanciful tale - illustrating truth. May it fare well as I sow it in a public school environment. It's getting in under the heading, "multi-cultural".

    Thanks for the prayers!
    Joy!

  9. Rich means to have a lot of. So I guess it all depends on how you finish the sentence. The rancher across from me loves horses and takes them in when others can't care for them. So when it rains, a lot of manure flows into our acreage. This makes our garden rich and our fruit trees bear a lot of plush fruit.

But if I had to be rich in anything, I would choose friendships and family.

  10. Well Steve Jobs was rich. And it couldn't save him. I was wondering if he was Christian? sandie

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
