Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: seek

How do you define the word seek?

Is it the same as looking for something, or is it different?

How and where do you seek the Lord?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

(Note: I've been a little "under the weather" this week - hope to be out *visiting* everyone in the next few days!)

BLOG = "Blessedly Leaning On God!"

  1. Good one! I'll make this answer short and sweet. Kinda like you and me.

I think seeking is specifically different from looking. Seeking implies and earnestness and intensity of seeking UNTIL what you are seeking is found. When we lost my niece at Dollywood when she was little, we were SEEKERS. We were not lookers.

I seek God in his Word and in my prayers. I look for him everywhere, but I think I SEEK him in those two places.

  2. Hi Sharon,

Yes I think seeking is more intense than looking. Hope you feel better soon.

    God Bless

  3. The word seek conjures up images of a diligent search that is not easily thwarted by mere inconveniences.

  4. Seeking and looking are different in that looking seems far more casual whereas seeking to me means I am really searching hard. And that's how I define my seeking for God.

  5. Seeking is much more than just looking. When you seek after something, you do it with all of your heart, and you do not give up, until you find what you are seeking. I seek after the Lord always , with everything I am.

  6. I seek him all the time - but sometimes I don't know if I have found him right then or not. I need to be quiet and not busy!

  7. seeking to me is something that I focus my whole attention on until I realize the thing I'm looking for. People tell me I never give up until I get what I'm wanting. To me...that's seeking. And I think it is different than just looking.

  8. Seek to me means searching diligently. I seek the Lord in prayer, in church, in the Bible, in every good thing in life.

  9. Blessings Sharon,

Closing out another hour quickly at the cyber, so I thought I'd catch up on a few of your "fan the flame" words... but you know by now I'm never "short and sweet" like you...

Skipped 8 above and came directly to comments:

Seek= to search and look specifically for something

However with God... it means much more as I seek Him diligently (part of SOAR's 8 weeks of "S") so with God, I am sure that it is much deeper than just looking for, but going really in depth to search with all your heart and being to encounter much more than the surface... to really KNOW...

I seek the Lord where ever I am but enjoy it much more away from the noise of the world!
I daily need to seek Him, so I go to Him in prayer, at home, in my van, in church, in the street, when in need for His wisdom, in His Word, in a song, in nature... I think you get my point...

Love, hugs and many prayers as you SEEK,

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
