"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Rely

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: rely

What does it mean to rely on something or someone?

What are some earthly things that people rely on?

How do you rely on the Lord?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. To me, rely on means to totally depend on something, or someone. I love the acronom frog-Fully Rely Upon God. That is what I do, He is my all in all.

  2. It always brings to mind that old counseling game where you lean back and believe that the person behind you will not let you fall.

In short, I equate it with leaning. I think what God would love us to do is to lean like the Nestea Plunge.

BTW, Now, I have a certain old hymn stuck in my head.

  3. Hi Sharon,

Totally trust, yes, leaning on believing you will not fall. Setting forth on very shaky ground, knowing He will hold your hand and keep you steadfast.

  4. Funny - rely - means to count on someone. How do I count of God - that is a good question. Sometimes better than others. Sandie

  5. Prayer is one of the ways I rely on God. My husband prays each time we get in the car -- traveling protection, clarity for worship, receptive help for truth, intuition for those who need shelter, etc.

  6. I rely on my husband for a lot of things. I'm glad he is a reliable person. If he says he will do something you know he is going to do it. I have other people in my life now and in the past that I could rely on but nobody is as reliable as God. He never ever fails.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte

  7. Ribit, ribit,... I'm a F.R.O.G.
    I FULLY RELY ON GOD...

What does it mean to rely on something or someone?

In order to RELY, I must fully trust... so that I can come to depend on whatever or whomever... it is built on confidence based on experience. The humans I have relied upon, in my opinion have failed me, as I am sure I have failed them. But I hope I'm more reliable than many that I have tried to rely on... does that make any sense? I have relied far too often on people... my full dependency in in God... (also part of my definition of RELY = to depend or be able to depend on that One... I hardly ever rely on things and less on people daily...

I've learned to RELY on our Lord so much being away from all that is familiar... you can't help but come to that place... by praying to God, shows my complete reliance on Him for so much of my life from protection to provision... although many times God uses people to be His vehicle, His hands and feet,
and on this I can RELY!!!

Thanks Sharon and many blessings as you RELY on God's direction,
    Peggy

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
