Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.
This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)
Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!
Today's word: helpless
How do you feel when you feel helpless?
What things make you feel helpless?
How does God rescue you when you feel helpless?
Please share one verse that you claim when you feel helpless in your life.
Let me know what you think!!
(NOTE: If you're interested, I'll share my thoughts over the weekend! After all, I need to fan my own flame!)
"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)
BLOG = "Blessedly Leaning On God!"
It never occurred to me until looking at the word in this post that I tend to use the word "helpless" when what I really feel is a sense of being unable to change something by myself. I realized that actually it means that I am without help from an outside source.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I guess there's really not such a thing as being "helpless" for a believer, is there? We are never without help just because we can't personally do something ourselves and it seems like no earthly hands will help us either.
I like the entire Psalm 56 when I'm in the helpless state of mind.
Without God, I would be totally helpless, with God, I am beyond hopeful.
ReplyDeleteI love what Denise just said.
ReplyDeleteAnd she managed to do it in so few words, too!
Helpless... it is when I insist on doing things my own way, instead of turning the burden over to Him. He can't help me if I insist on my own way.
ReplyDeleteI have honestly never used or thought of myself as helpless, or being in a helpless situation.
ReplyDeleteI'm one who thinks of the glass as half full, not half empty.
Being helpless isn't a bad thing. Hey, I can't stop myself from loving God! And God never wants us to go it alone. He's always there to help. All we need to do is cry out to Him.
I don't think there is a time in ones life that we are really helpless (without remedy). After all, isn't that why God sent his only begotten Son to die on the cross for us?
God's remedy for a fallen world.
Oh, perhaps there are those who think they're helpless, but that's exactly what the devils wants us to think and feel. The devil is a helpless liar!
All negativity is the work of Satan, and quite frankly it makes me sick! Do we really want to live in a way that makes us feel defeated before we've even tried? We need to keep our focus on God and stand firm.
I believe GOD ALWAYS MAKES A WAY, FOR YOU AND FOR ME...
which leads me to my favourite Bible verse, Isaiah 43:19
Okay, that's my two cents worth for this weeks "Fan the Flame".
Let's take the "less" out of helpless and keep on running with endurance the race God has set before us. With God's help, we can do anything :)
ReplyDeleteAWESOME COMMENTS, you guys!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading them, and pondering on the wonderful insights you brought to this week's word.
Here's my thoughts:
How do you feel when you feel helpless?
I feel lost, insecure, nervous, confused. I feel powerless to do anything about a situation or a circumstance. I feel victimized by my feelings.
What things make you feel helpless?
I was originally going to rattle off a bunch of stuff that makes me feel helpless - but I've changed my mind after reading your comments. Basically, yes, I feel helpless when I turn to myself for help. And when I believe the enemy's lie that it's all up to me - that if I can't solve something, I'm ON MY OWN.
How does God rescue you when you feel helpless?
Sometimes God arrives BIG on the scene - and His help is tangible and quick. Other times He arrives in a whisper that speaks peace to my soul But always, always, His rescue comes with the powerfully assuring words, "I AM WITH YOU."
Please share one verse that you claim when you feel helpless in your life.
"I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me." Psalm 16:8
GOD BLESS!
I feel helpless when I feel like the job is bigger than I can handle. Remembering there isn't anything too difficult for God to handle helps me. I realize sometimes we're given things we cannot handle so we will learn to turn to Him for help.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Charlotte
