COME TO ME

FOR TODAY

I know there is a purpose
That all is for my good,
But in my weary body
I wish I understood.

Oh Lord, I turn to you in faith
I know that You do care,
For though I ache with weariness
I feel You everywhere.

And in a moment of clarity
I hear a still, small voice -
"Take heed, my precious daughter
You have reason to rejoice.

Your burdens they are heavy
I know that this is true,
But come to Me, I'll give you rest
My yoke I give to you.

The burden I give is easy
Restoring to your soul,
And though you suffer in this life
Remember, Heaven is the goal.

Sleep tonight in peace, My child
Awake with strength anew,
For you are wearing the Shepherd's yoke
Made especially for you."

So I will face another day
And listen for His voice,
For Jesus is the reason
That in my heart I can rejoice.

"Come to Me," He says with love
"Let me give you rest,
I know the plans I have for you
And they are for the best."

Oh Lord, I release my weary mind
For You have heard my plea,
I thank You that You're always here
Walking each step with me.

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

  2. very beautiful poem, Sharon!! I like Psalm 68:19 (and I might have the reference off, but it says) Praise to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.

he wants to bear our burdens, we just need to remember to give them to him.....and rest in the shadow of his wings

  4. Lovely poem, Sharon. Today was the day to write on rest. Rest from all that causes us to feel heavy laden. Praise God for His rest.

  6. You're a poet too? Sharon, the little delights never cease. I love this, and with your permission, I would like to be able to share it with gals from my Sunday School class.

And now, I'm humming "His yoke is easy; his burden is light. I've found it so oh I've found it sooooo...."

  8. MTJ - Thank you for "seeing" my heart. I don't know what I would do without Jesus to go to when I am "heavy-laden!"

Betty - Thank you for your encouraging words. I looked up that reference in Psalms. Here's what it says in the NLT version: Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms." Isn't that just too precious?! I am doing my best to REST there...

Joan - I appreciate your comment. Comfort is the perfect word to use - He is COMFORT - a soothing place to go amidst the toil and turmoil of life.

Janis - Thank you so much. "Rest" is such a wonderful word. When I think about my life with the Lord (after this life) I think of heavenly, everlasting REST...from all the struggles, all the fears, all the heartache...just REST. "He lets me REST in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams." (Psalm 23:2)

Anita - I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem. I often find myself up late at night. Sometimes by choice, sometimes by a mind that refuses to be quiet. So often I just have to picture Him saying to me, "Sleep tonight in peace, My child..." I love this verse - Psalm 3:5: "I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me."

Debbie - Yes, a poet, too. You are too kind to consider these words a delight (but I appreciate it!!) YES, I would be honored if you shared this poem with others - makes me smile. (I'm humming too - though I'm the one slightly off-key!)

Denise - I'm humbled - thank you! I just write what I would want Jesus to say to me if He was sitting right there in front of me - and lo and behold, He gives me words to write down - and then they become EXACTLY that - what HE wants to say to me! If it blesses others, well, that's just "icing on the cake."

So...A BIG thank you from me, everyone. You are blessings in my life, and I KNOW that you all bring blessing to God, too.

Keep up the good work - as you wear the Master's Yoke - the easy and light burden to bear - because it leads to LIFE!

    GOD BLESS!!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
