"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Integrity

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: integrity

What does it mean to live a life of integrity?

Let me know what you think!!

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Hi Sharon,

What does it mean to live a life of integrity?
I believe that it means I live a life that is consistent with the principles of Christian living, that I'm not reflecting two distinct lifestyles (spiritual and secular), and that what I say about Christ and discipleship is supported by how I live.

    Blessings and peace.

  3. Well looks who is finally fanning the Friday flame... on Saturday! I came here yesterday but got an interruption so Idecided to think about this integrity thing for a while.

Plus, I like to read other comments first and then copy them. Wait... that doesn't sound right on a post about integrity, does it?

Seriously, I HAVE been thinking about this, and I think that integrity is being like our God in that you are who you say you are and do what you say you do (and will do).

Character consistant with reputation so to speak.

I think there is a lack of integrity in our world. People give the old brush off, "I'll pray for you..." and then waltz off without so much as a second thought.

Or that business of self promotion where a face is presented which is completely different from the one under the mask.

Believe it or not, I think that in some ways a pagan, athiest, or secular humanist, etc. can display more integrity by admitting what he IS (however very SAD that is) than the member of the multitude to professes to be the disciple.

I don't want to be a fake. I don't want to be in the multitude. Warts and all, I want to be the real thing.

That's my 2 cents for this one. I love that you make me think. It hurts my head but is good excercise.

(And btw... saw your question about tasting the Milli Vanilli soup. Yep. I did. It tasted like rock salt!!! Obviously, I did need that duct tape. LOL I would have put that on the blog post, but I had yakked long enough.)

  4. Hi everyone!
You know what I love about this "fan the flame" thing?? YOU guys make ME think...a lot (btw, Debbie - it does hurt :)

If you don't mind, I'm going to combine all your comments, and sorta sum up what all of you have taught me about the word "integrity."

To be CONSISTENT with the principles of Christian living (and our guideline is God's Word).
To be the same on the "inside" as we are on the "outside."
    Walk the talk we talk.
    SET APART from the world.
    Keeping your word.
Living the "fruit of the Spirit."
Being like God - in who you are, and what you do.
    Character = Reputation
"What you see is what you get" - NO MASKS! Be real.

Also, when I think of the word/idea of integrity, I am reminded of this verse from
    Philippians 4:8-9:
"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing: FIX your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. THINK about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. KEEP putting into practice ALL that you learned and received from me - everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you."

p.s. Betty, glad hubby is home safe...puppy smiles again!!
Debbie, I KNEW you tasted the soup. Just wanted to see if you had the "integrity" to own up to it!! LOL...xoxo

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
