"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Angry

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: angry

What makes you angry?

How is it possible to be angry and not sin?

What do you think makes God angry?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Hi Sharon,

I am trying very hard not too be angry at the moment. I am disappointed about some things, I am impatient about some things and guess as usual I am being a bit judgemental on some counts. Will go away and think again about anger.

    Have a great weekend. Nita

  2. We are to be angry at sin, not the sinner. I think God gets angry when we refuse to listen.

  3. Sometimes we're so on the same wavelength, it's scary! I was thinking about this earlier this morning after dropping the kids off (which, of course, triggers my anger). I was patting myself on the back for calling people out on their wrongdoings...and thinking, "Is this righteous anger? Or is it SELF-righteous anger?" I think it's "okay" to be angry when things are not in line with God's Word. It's how we act in our anger that gets us into trouble. Speaking the truth in love is A LOT harder to do than it is to say!

  4. I'll go with my first thought here.....religious spirits make me angry. I read the gospels a lot and they made Jesus angry too! This is a great topic, Sharon. I must come back and read your responses. Should be good!

    Happy Friday, my friend.

  5. I'm a drama queen. I said that as sort of an introduction to the fact that of all the fleshy areas that I have to fight in the spirit, anger is the hardest for me. I don't have what I call "abiding anger", but I'm prone to spurts of it. Thanks to God, I get less temperamental and more like Him by the day.

I think the only anger which is really acceptable to God is that which, (as Salsalady said) is spiritual. I also think that anger without sin is anger that is kept in check.

However, I do not believe that anger "kept in check" necessarily means that it's not expressed. Jesus physically expressed his anger more than once in scripture. So did Moses. We see just as much evidence of sinning internally with unexpressed anger as physically with a display of temper.

  6. What makes me very angry is when I see the devil controlling people, and they don't even realize it. My anger is turned to him, not them.

  7. Obviously it is okay to be angry and not sin because Jesus was a "bit" angry with the money changers in the temple and yet he was without sin. Righteous anger is okay; against abuse, against injustice that type of thing. Unfortunately sometimes I get angrier about a situation or a person than I should be; need to work on that one.....

    another great word Sharon!

  8. So Sharon, tell us what YOU think.

Just thought I would put you on the spot. Everyone needs a friend like Debbie to heckle them. I used to like it when you came back and shared your thoughts on it.

  9. Meanness. Deliberate meanness--That's what makes me angry. I'm not a confrontational person, but I will go out of my way to be kind where meanness has crushed someone's spirit. If I in turn used meanness towards the one causing the meanness then yes, I believe my anger would be wrong.

  10. Dishonesty makes me angry. Unfairness makes me angry. Deceitfulness makes me angry. It makes me angry when I see someone abusing another person verbally.
Thank you for this thought provoking post.
    Blessings,

  11. Due to popular demand (Debbie) I'm adding my two cents.

What makes me angry? In the world, I am angered by things that are unfair or cruel. I don't like bullies, liars, or cheats. I am frustrated by people who are selfish. I am angered by people who mistreat children and animals. Spiritually, I am angered by the way the enemy attacks people. The way he turns us away from the Lord. The way he tries to destroy our hearts.

How is it possible to be angry and not sin? Well, I think that has a lot to do with where the motivation for the anger comes from. If I am angry because I think MY rights have been infringed upon, chances are I will end up sinning - wrong words, wrong thoughts, wrong actions. However, if I get angry because of something that goes against God's ways, I think that lies more in the realm of righteous indignation. Although, if I take matters into my own hands, instead of trusting God to *right the wrong* I still might end up doing the wrong thing for the right reasons.

What makes God angry? Well, if I read my Bible correctly, He is also angered by the ways of the devil - by sin and death. However, I have a feeling that He is also displeased by our mistrust, our grumbling, our pride, etc. Gratefully, His anger is always covered by the blood of Jesus. Mercy and grace provided a way to satisfy His wrath.

    GOD BLESS!

  13. Dear Sharon,

You always put so much thought into all that you share here. I loved reading your "two cents".

I get angry at more stuff than I ever should, but the one single thing that makes my blood boil is when people yell abuse at others, adding in lots of colourful words.

It's always a blessing to stop in here and spend time with you.

Loving God, loving you, Kerrie xoxo

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
