"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Trust

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: trust

What does the word trust mean to you?

Is it harder for you to trust God or obey Him?

Let me know what you think!!

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Hi Sharon -

Trust means to me that no one can be fully trusted but GOD. I do not even trust myself 100% because I have been known to do or say things and later say to myself something like "What were you thinking?!" It happens less frequently because my closeness with GOD stops me dead in my tracks. Now I am more inclined to listen to His promptings, but before this closeness developed...well...

For me, I think that it is easier to obey GOD than to always trust Him. I have obeyed Him and said things like, "Lord, What?!..." As my closeness to Him gets more progressive, I question Him less...and trust Him more.

We are prone to falter no matter how close we get to GOD. It is what is is but I do believe that closeness to GOD prevents more from happening....and less need to repent...

  2. Hi Sharon,

I think the two words probably go together, it is hard to obey god, if you dont first trust him. As the chorus says, "Trust and Obey for there is no other way"
Take care and have a blessed weekend, hugs Nita

  3. Trust! Wow that's my "buzz" work for this year. The year I "trust" God even if it doesn't make sense and not try to worry too much. I'm doing better about it too. Trust - put your faith in God that he knows what is best for you even if it doesn't make sense at the time. Trust - try not to worry about things but know he is in control and is watching out for you and only wants the best for you, no matter what steps it takes to get there. I think obey is a bit different than trust. Obey means we'll do what God wants us to do. Trust is believing in God and his word and his promises. I just finished reading the Psalms/Proverbs and wrote down a lot of "trust" scripture. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet, but I really think we need to grasp the concept to trust in God (as well as the concept to fear God). I think if we got those two concepts down, I think our lives would go so much more smoother!

Happy weekend, and I'll be thinking about you and praying for you all tomorrow :)

  4. Awesome short and sweet post. :)

It is definitely hard to trust God sometimes because sometimes it's hard to understand why he'd let somethings happen or why this or why that and why can't we just a million dollars in ditch somewhere? Why, why, why...... But if we just trust Him and have the faith as a child, God can work miracles in our lives.

    Thanks for the encouragement! :)

  5. "Trust and obey--for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey." The combination is powerful and can move mountains or give tremendous peace in unlikely circumstances.

For me, I think it's harder to trust God for something I don't see yet, than to obey Him, His Word, in different situations.

    Great short and sweet post.

    Blessings,
    Janis

  6. Sandra - Great thoughts! I liked this line: "As my closeness to Him gets more progressive, I question Him less...and trust Him more." That is so true! It seems that trust is part of our growth process. A closer walk leads to knowing God better - knowing God better leads to greater trust in Him.

Nita - You made a very good point. It's hard to obey God if you don't trust Him. If you think someone's out to get you, you're unlikely to follow them anywhere. But, if you trust God's love, you won't want to disappoint Him - you'll want to please Him - you'll strive to obey Him.

Betty - OH AMEN! This year I've really been concentrating on growing my trust muscles more. It's not easy for a natural "worrywart." A bigger concept of God is key for me. If I REALLY truly believe that God is good, that He loves me, and He is worthy of my fearful awe - then part of my obedience to Him is trusting Him.

Katie - What good thoughts! When I was growing up, I was known as the "Why Girl" - I asked "why" about EVERYTHING! However, one of my favorite passages in the Bible is from Proverbs: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding." Childlike
    faith - that's the secret!

Janis - For me, trust is definitely harder. I tend to think of obedience as a decision I make with my will, and trust as a decision I make with my feelings. Maybe that's wrong - perhaps I should look at trust as a choice, too. I WILL trust God, no matter what - no matter what my feelings tell me. And I will base my trust on HIS trustworthiness.

GOD BLESS - thanks for stopping by. Come back soon!

  7. Hi Sharon -

Thank you for the comments on "AT THE MALL."

Did you read the "PRAISE REPORT" posted yesterday, as well? Also, are you inclined to do "7 UPS - QUIZUPS" this week? The answers will be posted later today.

  8. Okay to be honest with you - I have trouble with both - sometimes one at a time sometimes both at the same time. I think it is something that I will struggle with all the days that I live. For me is a daily walk . . .

  9. I just typed and erased a bunch of gobbldeegook because the rest of you said it better.

I remember learning that the Greek words in scripture for "disbelief" and "disobedient" were the same word. I fail at times with my trust. I KNOW this to be true because I wouldn't drag my feet if that were not the case. It convicts me to remember that that show of distrust is actually disobedience.

  10. Sandra - I did read your praise report. I love it when God shows up and gives the enemy the "heave ho!" I'll head over to do 7-ups when I'm done with my comments here.

Sandie - I just love your honesty. You and me - strugglers, for sure. I have a hard time with both of them, too. If I had to pick one, though, it would be trust. I'm a worrywart - and worrying really crowds out trust. I'm working on it...as you said, a daily walk!

Debbie - Really? Same Greek word for disbelief and disobedient? I find that fascinating! That really convicts me, too. I think that's the best thing I got out of "fan the flame" this week. That mistrust is really disobedience. I'd never really thought of it that way. Puts a whole other slant on the issue - because I really do want to please God, to obey Him. Thanks for sharing this - I learned something.

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
