"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Praise

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: praise

What does the word praise mean to you?

What is one thing you want to praise God for today?

Let me know what you think!!

“This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  1. Good morning, Sharon, and happy day after Thanksgiving!

To me, praise is boasting about God for all the universe to hear. Sometimes, I boast of what He does in a circumstance, but mainly, I boast of what He IS in all circumstances.

To me, it's different from thanksgiving. While gratitude and thanksgiving are arrows of praise that I shoot directly TO HIM, Praise is more a fireworks display that I shoot for all creation to see, hear, and shout "Amen".

  2. One thing to praise God? That would be hard to come up with. I'm thinking, for Jesus, but then I'm thinking for creating the world and then I'm thinking of all his qualities, mighty, awesome eternal, everlasting, loving, forgiving, kind, merciful. That would be hard to limit it to just one thing :)

Praise, to give glory to God for who he is. He doesn't need our glory but it is good to praise him, to acknowledge his greatness and might and so much more.

I wrote down the last time I was in the Psalms most of the verses that had said something about praising God and sometimes before I start praying, I read those aloud to praise him (I usually start prayer time with a bit of praise, but I always think it is soooo neat to pray/praise God through his word :)

I hope you are enjoying your time :)

  3. Debbie - What a lovely way of putting it! I'm "oohing" and "aahing" at the fireworks of praise! May the whole world hear it - He is worthy of it all!!

Betty - Wonderful words! You have captured the essence of praise, and its importance. It really is an act of worship, isn't it? I also love the Psalms, and how they express in words the inner feelings of the heart.

Had a great time in the mountains, but it's fun to be back, too!

    GOD BLESS!

  4. Hi Sharon -

Utmost praise to me means to "break out the band" in holy melodic celebration to our Lord.

Praise on other more quiet levels means to me to commune with our Lord in adoration with thanksgiving for His presence - for who He is and for what He does.

Praise can be in an assortment of forms. The main ingredient is love. Our Lord so appreciates when we love Him, and praise Him in sincerity with pure hearts and clean hands.

I praise GOD today that we breathe His air and that it is in Him that we live and move and have our being. Thank you, Lord.

  5. Sandra - This was a lovely comment. I really liked how you brought out two kinds of praise. Vocal, out loud praise, and inner, personal, quiet praise. Both are integral parts of our total worship of the Lord. (In song and spirit comes to mind). A loving heart is the sacrifice that pleases Him the most! Pure hearts and clean hands - that was a great way of putting it.

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
