WE REMEMBER...THANK YOU

Today is Veteran’s Day.

It is a day when we remember…

All those who have served – all those who were injured, or captured, or tortured – all those who are missing – all those who have died. And all those who are serving now.

We have so much to be grateful for…

FREEDOM.

Last week, I votedThank you.

Last week, I attended churchThank you.

Last week, I bowed my head and said “grace” before a meal, in public Thank you.

Last week, I attended a Bible StudyThank you.

Last week, I drove my car, with a Jesus sticker on it Thank you.

Last week, I carried my Bible with meThank you.

Last week, I spoke to someone about my faithThank you.

Last week, I did so many things that would not have been possible if someone hadn’t fought for this country – for my country – for your country.

We have the glorious freedom to worship our Lord – freely and publicly. We are not in danger of being thrown in jail, or tortured, or killed. And our veterans have sacrificed so much in order for us to have that freedom.

Today I don’t think it matters whether we agree or don’t agree with political policy. Today it doesn’t matter if we are “hawks” or “doves.” Today we simply focus on people real, live people who served our country, or are serving now – who did this for our sakes – because they believed in freedom.

Thank you.

May we take today to remember what they have fought for – what they have sacrificed for – what they have believed in…

One nation…under GOD.

If you know someone who has served, or is serving, this country in the armed forces, I would encourage you to reach out to them today. Tell them how much you appreciate them. Tell them we will always remember them. Tell them…

Thank you.

Remind them that God sees He upholds them – He will never forget what they have done – in the name of…

FREEDOM.

  1. Hi Sharon -

Thank you for this tribute to our armed forces.

    Prayer:

Father, in the name of JESUS, please save and make whole the men and women who valiantly serve. Please teach them the rewards of love and forgiveness, and give them strength and courage to move forward in positive ways in all affairs of their lives. Minister to and help their families to cope with the absences and uncertainties.

As for those who are already saved, please help them, Lord, to remain grounded and settled in You.

    Thank you Lord - Amen

Sidebar: Sharon, did you read my post "A CHRISTIAN AT THE STATE DEPARTMENT" posted yesterday?

  2. Hi Sharon, well said thank you. It is armistice day here in england. The shops asked for everyone to stop and be quiet for 2 mins remembrance at 11.a.m. Myself and my daughter were in the cafe at Tesco's I was quite disgusted that, no one, staff, or customer, compiled with this request when it was announced at 11 a.m. Thank you so much for joining in prayer with me and all your encouraging comments. Hugs - nita

  3. Yesterday I delivered plans for work to our local Air Force Base. I don't know if it's because we were on the heels of Veteran's Day or not, but I was overcome by the sight of so many men and women in uniform walking around. It was so unbelievably humbling, to know that they devote their lives to serving and protecting us. It made me feel so very unworthy - and yet, I was grateful.

I read a quote yesterday - "We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude." ~Cynthia Ozick

I think our soldiers are the perfect example of that. So I'm making a conscious effort to thank and pray for them today...and hope it spills over into every day!

P.S. - As for your comment about moms worrying...I suspected as much! BOO HISS! ;)

  6. Amen! Well said. My husband's grandfather is a WWII veteran and we always call him to say ''thank you''. It saddens me everytime I read of one of these heroes passing away. There are so few left. We have to remember them and make sure our children do the same.

  7. Sandra - Wonderful prayer. Thank you for that. We do owe these valiant people so much. I ask for God to watch over them, too. (Will head over and read your post).

Nita - Isn't it just so sad how the word "respect" has lost most of its meaning? Two minutes, is that really too much to ask - when we owe them our very lives in some ways? Isn't it wonderful that our blogs allow us to talk and pray TOGETHER - even across the Atlantic? Makes me :)

Jennie - I am humbled by their service, too. Our church supports a local marine battalion. In just the last two weeks, they have lost 10 (out of 1,000) over in Afghanistan. Just got an email yesterday that they're deploying 35 more. I am overcome by my sense of indebtedness. Great quote, loved it! (Sorry about the Mom thing - someone had to tell you the truth!)

Sandie - YAY! I join you in saluting these brave men and women!

Debby - We must ALWAYS remember. If we don't, we take our freedom for granted, and we cease to honor the country we live in. We cease to honor those who have served, and those who are currently serving...

Betty - Thanks. I just had to stop and take a moment, and realize that my FREEDOM to follow Jesus, without fear, is thanks to the many people that fought for this right.

Melissa - Send a thank you to your husband's grandfather from me. I so appreciate our veterans. And you have brought up a good point - we must teach our children the importance of their sacrifice, we must teach our children the true value of freedom.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

And blessings to all of you, too!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)

Thanks for your comments - it is such a joy to be sharing my journey with friends like YOU!
