"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Warrior

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: warrior

What qualities and traits do you think a warrior should have?

Who do you think is a warrior?

Do you think you are?

Let me know what you think!!

"This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you…For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline." (2 Timothy 1:6-7)

  2. Smiling here, since the first thing I think of is 'a Wesmont student!'...

Truth is, a warrior is a strong fighter, full of heart, courage and determination. A defender of truth, unafraid to stand up and fight, and so much more...

Good word for us to think on today Sharon!

    xo

    Happy Mother's Day!

  3. another good word Sharon! Jesus is a warrior, he fought the battle for us. So having his qualities I think would be what a true warrior should have, love, trust, faithfulness, kindness, mercy, etc and continuing to fight and persevere on, even in the midst of hardships, trials, etc when we want to give up.

  4. Jesus was a warrior - and I think one attribute of a warrior - is never to give up - and he didn't - no matter how hard the race was - he never gave up.

  5. Warrior...now that's a word I'm familiar with . I'm a fighter...I learned to fight..and I learned the dance of a fighter.....to hold on...to never let go...never give in...never give up. Stay focused. See the end result....the win. And sometimes.....hold still....trust..and really important...know your enemy...know their strategies.....and know the weapons that are the best to use for the fight....

  6. OK, I kind of cheated this week. I read the other responses. I just thought I should confess that up front.

I think Jesus is a warrior.
I think in the story of the Amalekites (my favorite OT story of all) both Moses AND Joshua were warriors. Joshua fought the literal battle, and Moses fought the spiritual battle.
Sometimes I'm the Joshua, and sometimes I'm the Moses.

And sometimes I'm the Aaron and Hur holding up the Moses or the nameless Israelite fighting with the Joshua. In their own way, all are warriors.

    I try to be one.

But sometimes, I admit to being Elijah cowering in a cave. Thankfully, some Moses eventually comes along and prays me out of it.

  7. Love this word! Certainly, the greatest Warrior is Christ, having marched victoriously against the power of death and sin. But in recent years I've come to view godly parents, particularly mothers, as warriors. When we pray, correct, encourage, and love our children (especially when they are acting unlovable), I think we take on the role of ''warrior'', fighting to ensure our children grow to be godly warriors themselves. Because of some of the issues our family has had to face, I have had to take on that role often. It's not my nature and in my own strength I'm very much a wimp, but dressed fully in my Ephesians 6 armor, I am strong in Him.
And with that, HAPPY WARRIOR MOTHER'S DAY SHARON!

  9. Janette - Hang in there, my dear friend. Even when we don't fight well (I know, I've been a very weak *warrior* lately) - we can still lean on the strong arms of the LORD of Heaven's Armies.

Sonja - I wondered if you'd point that out! Yes, you have used so many powerful words that signify a warrior. The one I liked the best was defender of truth. Made me think of a knight in shining armor - slashing away at the dragon of deception and lies.

Betty - You said so many things that I think about when I think of a warrior. And yes, Jesus is our best example. And He fought battles we will never have to fight - thank goodness. Most of all, He never gave up - and therefore, He can help us stand strong, too.

Sandie - Yes, yes, yes. I just said the same thing in my response to Betty. There is something so valiant about Jesus - the One who persevered through the WORST trials anyone will ever have to face. But, He NEVER gave up. Not on anything - not on us.

Sarah - You are one of the warriors that I admire the most. You truly are a fighter. I like how you pointed out that a warrior also knows that sometimes fighting requires standing still. A warrior is wise. And yes, it is crucial to understand our enemy - his strategies and his weapons - his lies and his deception.

Debbie - Didn't a *teacher* ever tell you that cheaters never prosper?? :)
I agree - the Bible is full of named warriors, and unnamed warriors. Their common quality - they relied on the Lord for their strength. And frankly, I'm rather consoled by the fact that *big name prophet* Elijah also cowered. That so lets me know that I'm not alone. You're not either - I'll pray you out of that cave.

Melissa - I love your new picture! You have the best smile! Oh, you have shared such inspiring words! I love the picture of warrior moms! Yes, we do have to stand up for our families and our children. Even though my sons are grown up, I still see where I have to be a champion for them. And most of the time, I do my fighting on my knees - interceding for them in prayer. Happy Mother's Day to you, too!

Alisa - YAY! Sonja (a previous comment) and I graduated from Westmont College out here in Califronia - and we were called the Warriors! I think it's a great mascot. Tell those kids of yours that we're all warriors in the Lord's army. Onward Christian soldiers!

Happy Mother's Day to you all!

    GOD BLESS!

  11. Hi Sharon -

The first three words of warrior are WAR. We are to war a good warfare as the Word of GOD commands.

    Exodus 15:3 -KJV
The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name.

Warriors persevere. Warriors are valiant. Warriors love GOD first. Warriors walk by faith not by sight. Warriors renew their minds, in accordance with Romans 12:2. Warriors read and memorize GOD's Word - AND most of all - Warriors DO the Word of GOD.

    Zephaniah 3:13 - KJV
...and none shall make them afraid.

    Warriors strive to perfect holiness.

    May GOD help us all...

  12. Ginger - I think that just fighting the good fight, in the Lord's power, is what makes us a true warrior. And in that case, YOU are one of the mighty ones!

Sandra - Yes, excellent thoughts! I like especially the idea that warriors must persevere. Wars are not instantly won - there are battles and skirmishes along the way. Warriors do not give up or give in. They strive for the perfectionof their holiness...

Yes, may God help us all!

    GOD BLESS!

"So [I] have been greatly encouraged in the midst of [my] troubles and suffering, dear brothers and sisters, because you have remained strong in your faith. It gives [me] new life to know that you are standing firm in the Lord. How [I] thank God for you!" (1 Thessalonians 3:7-9)
