"FAN THE FLAME" FRIDAY - Nature

Welcome to "Fan the Flame" Friday.

This is a weekly post that will be "short and sweet" (kinda like me...)

Just a word and a phrase, a sentence or a question...just a little something to "fan the flame" of your creativity!

Today's word: nature

What is the most beautiful thing you've ever seen in nature?

How do you think God speaks through nature?

Oh, Sharon! You know that nature is dear to my heart! I believe we can develop a deeper understanding of God's goodness by studying nature. Everything fits together. It is all according to his divine plan. One of the many things in nature that inspires me is the ocean, especially at sunset :)

Hi Sharon,

Like Patti, I am inspired by the ocean. The sound of thunderous waves in the early morning seem to me like the voice of God calling me to pray and seek His presence.

It is amazing to me all the many ways that nature reveals the existence and creative process of God.

Oh Sharon I have to admit I have almost been avoiding your blog...because I am going through something and was afraid God would convict me...LOL

So I reluctantly pressed on today...so please know I love coming here, even if I haven't been this week.

Nature...everything about nature screams God to me from the beginning to the end. If I ever need to hear from God I always go out into nature and there will be His voice. This week is was watching a hummingbird that is coming to our feeder. She doesn't do anything but come and eat. She doesn't do anything for her food, she hasn't earned it and she isn't repaying me back. She is totally provided for without a worry in the world.

God said, "that is what I do for you and yet you are so anxious about what is happening in your life!"

Nature....always speaks so loudly.

I love the beautiful flowers that God has created, especially roses, tulips and geraniams(sp)., azeleas ,,,etc. etc. etc. I have not found a flower yet that I don't like and just thinking about all the beautiful things created by God it just humbles me.

Pleased you are still fanning the flame. I am having some problems leaving comments on blogger this week. Anyway hope this one gets through, my answer would be many things, but what comes to mind immediately is rainbows, I just love rainbows and the reminder of god's promises. God speaks to me through nature in so many ways. How about these powerful storms our nation has experienced this week? Makes me think of amazing strength. Have a good Memorial Day weekend!

sunrises and sunsets, ocean waves crashing along the shore, birds singing, flowers blooming, God is displayed throughout nature, pointing us to thoughts of him that there is a Creator that designed and organized and created this beautiful world! I think his glory is displayed in nature!!

There are so many awe inspiring things in our beautiful world. It is hard for me to pick one but I guess if I had to pick one it would be the ocean. It is so huge, powerful, mysterious and so beautiful.

I think God's creation (including us) displays His awesome creativity. And like us, it is meant to glorify Him..."the earth declares the glory of God!"

WOW! What fan-flaming you did today! I thought I would summarize some of the highlights from each of your comments - because they paint a wonderful picture of nature, and of the Lord who created it all!

- Studying nature gives us a deeper understanding of God's goodness

GRATEFUL

Grateful: feeling or showing thanks to someone for some helpful act; appreciative of benefits received; warmly or deeply thankful; indebted; beholden.

Word origin: 1550's, "pleasing to the mind," also "full of gratitude," from obsolete adj. grate "agreeable, thankful," from Latin gratus "pleasing" – derived from the same word origin as the word "grace."

The trick to changing your behavior is to become more thankful.

The practice of gratitude involves a focus on the present moment, on appreciating your life as it is today and what has made it so.

Let us begin an eternal quest to express in new and creative ways our thanks to God.

So I'm breathing in Your grace,

And I'm breathing out Your praise.

Let our prayers be the overflow of a grateful heart to God.

Three steps in prayer:

PRAISE – praise, reverence, worship, adoration, and awe for who God is and what He does

ASK – honest, earnest, and intense requests

THANK YOU – always end with thanksgiving for everything

Pulpit commentary:

In everything give thanks.

In every circumstance – in joy and in sorrow; for everything – for prosperity and for adversity; in every place – in the house of God and on the bed of sickness.

Christians should not only be engaged in constant prayer, but in constant thanksgiving.

For this – this thankful spirit – is the will of God, His desire.

God by the gift of his Son has laid us under the obligation of perpetual thanksgiving. Our whole lives ought to be one continued thank-offering for all the blessings of redemption.

Gill's Exposition:

Thanks are to be given to him for all things…

For all temporal good things;

for our beings, the preservation of them;

for food and raiment, and all the mercies of life;

for the means of grace, the word and ordinances, and the ministers of the Gospel;

for spiritual blessings, for electing, redeeming, regenerating, adopting, pardoning, justifying, and persevering grace:

for a meetness for heaven, a right unto it, and a good hope of it;

and especially for Jesus Christ, for such a…Saviour, and advocate with the Father, as he is; and for life, peace, joy, comfort, righteousness, and salvation in him.

Thanks should be given to God in every circumstance of life; in adversity, as Job did; when not in so comfortable and agreeable a frame of soul as to be wished for…even under the temptations of Satan…since the grace of God is sufficient to bear up under them, and deliver out of them.
